When I paint 15 or 28mm figures I glue the figures to either craft sticks or plastic sticks and hold the sticks while painting. Now I have some 40mm figures to paint. What can I use? I think small blocks will be OK for infantry but cavalry seem too heavy to be glued to a stick or block. Am I wrong bout this? Thanks. |

I always use the figures to the bases that they will be mounted on when I paint them. Wrong? how can you be wrong, if it's the way you prefer to paint? |

I've been using roofing nails they have a wider head than standard how about a paint bottle for example a polly scale bottle is about an inch wide and 2 inches tall should be plenty to hold a larger miniature and have plenty to hold on to hmmm cap from a bottle of mouthwash? same size but a bit lighter |

I either use Blue Tac or a spot of white glue (PVA). I affix the miniature to an old wooden cotton reel.

My concern is with the weight of the figure. I feel that when the figure is tilted sideways to paint it will fall off the stick it has been glued to. I've had this happen with 28s and 40mm figures are twice as heavy. A cavalry figure (horse and rider as one piece) must weight about 4 ounces. |

I glue figures to golf tees with white glue, I have a holder that is a block of wood with holes drilled that are large enough for the golf tees to fit into. If I am not painting them, they rest in the holder. Like John I base my figure before gluing them to the golf tees. LLC aka Ron |

I use corks. Go to Hobby Lobby or on line and get a bag of corks. You can either glue them on, or if slotted figures are being painted, notch them. |

FusilierDan – I glued my cotton reels to a square of card. Stops it toppling. |

I still stick the to sticks. I can usually handle 3-4 Cav per stick even though they are 40's. |

I blut tack them to coins. NEver had a problem even with 28mm cavalry. Cheers Jaz revolutionaryroads.com – a new type of wargaming road. |

For 40mm figures I have used either paint stirring sticks that you get at the hardware store, or cheap wooden 12" rulers. They are robust enough and offer a wide enough gluing surface to hold the figures in place. |

I don't glue my figures to anything – just hold them in my Mk1 fingers – as I have done for over 30 years! |

I used to use plastic bottle tops but i found them to be too top heavy & easy to knock over when there is a miniature glued to them now I use wooden thread spool like Brian but I glue a magnet to the bottom of them so I can put them on top of a biscuit tin when I'm spraying them with primer. |

Try tongue depressors they are usually wider than the craft sticks you can buy. That's what I use. |

I use a thick hand-width Dowell rod with a rare earth magnet glued to one end. I mount my figures on fender washers as I do mostly skirmish. I have never had a figure fall off and in fact have to slide the figure off to break the connection. |

For 28mm I use size 16 nails set in drilled 2X2. fast way to spray primed. and finish coat. For 15mm I use large craft sticks or tongue depressors. White glue to attach. |
