Napoleonic cavalry in packs of ten? Ten is not enough but 20 is too many. Anyone else find this frustrating when trying to plan orders and/or an army?

Frothers Did It And Ran Away05 May 2013 5:54 p.m. PST

Yes but for TSATF where 12 is the magic number.

spontoon05 May 2013 6:35 p.m. PST

Buy three and make two units. I mostly do SYW where cavalry units are smaller, so I run into the opposite problem.

Woolshed Wargamer05 May 2013 6:51 p.m. PST

And I will still have six figures left over. I guess I could learn to love units of 14 and 16.

It's like the hotdog to bun ratio-"they" like it that way.

Does the 10 include command?

When I was doing FIW regiments for Plains of Abraham, the numbers never came out right either.

Unless they sell them as individual figures no one is going to be happy all of the time, so I imagine they package them how it works out best for them, whether that be mold runs, having every 25mm pack of whatever cost the same, labor, etc.

79thPA – I know why they do it – it can just be frustrating some times. Obviously today is pretty quiet if this is what is Bleeped texting me off :)

Ummmm….it's that what Gaming Clubs were made for? the trading and exchange of minis to make units? That and for aid in putting on gianormous games before you are too old to even remember what rule set you are using, let alone just WHY you painted all those minis!!

Gonsalvo05 May 2013 8:21 p.m. PST

It is an odd number for Cavalry; I usually use the Officer figures as leaders/sub-commanders, and often use the spare troopers as aides to higher level commanders (My Cavalry units have 8 figures). Can't beat the price, though!

thomalley05 May 2013 8:46 p.m. PST

Wait a couple years, cost will go up and they'll start selling 8 for the same price.

Woolshed Wargamer05 May 2013 9:17 p.m. PST

OG don't seem to play that game, thomalley.

I doubt that. A full mold is a bag full in most cases.
To cut down to 8 figures would require remolding everything they sell.

I love old glory and 30 inf is perfect and 12 cav would be perfect too!

Jcfrog06 May 2013 3:06 a.m. PST

12 and 24 are obviously practical numbers for all tastes/ choices. Use friendly.

Pretty much every game system around organizes the troops in multiples of 4…

Madmike106 May 2013 4:54 a.m. PST

OG15 Nappies are the best in the whole range.

While the bags are a pain it still works out cheaper to just throw out the spares than buy other companies individual figures.

Evil Bobs Miniature Painting06 May 2013 5:01 a.m. PST

Madmike: He's talking about Old Glory 25s.

EagleSixFive06 May 2013 5:02 a.m. PST

I agree Brian, and its not just their Napoleonic range. People do 12 figure Cavalry units no matter what the period.

By John 5406 May 2013 5:41 a.m. PST

Not if they play 'Grand Manner' they don't, cavalry in 16, 24, 32, 36, 40, 48, man regiments, only one is a multiple of 10, I agree, it is annoying, but, I'm not really a fan of Old Glory figures, especially their horses, soooooo, I'll shut up!

My cavalry units are 5, 10, or 20 so no problem here.

wrgmr106 May 2013 11:10 a.m. PST

I agree, our Napoleonics are 12 infantry and 6 cavalry.
I use extra Light Cavalry as ADC's.

Put them up for sale of trade here on TMP. There are plenty of others with the same situation.

The Tin Dictator06 May 2013 4:59 p.m. PST

On the few occasions where I've needed "special" handling, OG has always been very accomodating. I recently asked about getting 60 ECW horses with no riders and they happily told me how much it would cost and sent them out.

So… if it REALLY bothers you that much to buy 10 figures when you really want to buy 12, ask them. Maybe they'll help you out.

I don't suppose they want to start running a completely custom order house, but occasional help seems to be available. I have no complaints.
