I was trying to find out if all Regiments of the Pennsylvania Reserve division at Gettysburg wore the "buck tail" in their hat, or was it only the original regiment? Thanks |

Only the 13th Pa Reserves wore the Bucktails. The rest did not. Now, did you know that there were 2 other regiments that wore them? They were in the 1st Corps, Gen. Stone's brigade and were nicknamed (sarcastically) the "Bogus Bucktails". The regiments were the 149th and 150th Pa. The last regiment in that brigade, te 143rd Pa did not wear the Bucktails. Right. Stone had hoped to raise an entire brigade of Bucktails but only managed to assemble 2 regiments. The original Bucktails were also known as the 13th Pa. Reserve, or the 1st Pa. Rifles, and I think they also had a volunteer regiment number somewhere in the 40s (48?). |

The 13th Pa. Reserves were 'officially' the 42nd Pennsylvania. Don |

FYI – The other Pa. Reserves regiments 1 thru 44 were given the official numbers of 30 thru 44. Vince
