Wiki isn't turning anything up, and I just got these shiny new ancient Spanish models. Any interesting or profound battles between the Rep. Romans and Iberians? |

Siege of Numantia. Apart from that, loads of small skirmish and ambush actions. |

Here's one we are gonna fight this Wednesday – There were over 100,000 combatants, of which at least a third were Spanish. link The thing about ancient Spain, is that it was a clan based society with lots of 'petty kings' ruling over groups of them. Each clan group largely went its own way, so you would get lots of small 'civil wars' over the ownership of one goat, or another. The coastal strip was colonised, in a major way, by the Carthaginians after the First Punic War. They brought a homgeneous order to the areas they controlled and employed Spanish soldiers from there and the Spanish interior by the thousands, as mercenaries. When the Carthaginians were defeated in the Second Punic War it was colonised by the Romans who did the same. The Spanish were troblesome throughout the colonial period until the Romans finally romanised them. One tribe or another would kick off a revolt and the colonialists (Roman or Carthaginian) would be forced to put it down. Just prior to Ilipa in 206 BC(linked above) the Carthaginians had been engaged in putting down a major revolt. Unfortunately, as with a lot of 'civil disturbances' of the past, history has failed to detail the events – the colonial victors seem not to have wanted to be reminded. My two penneth for the BC period. |

Thanks guys. I was looking for solo Spain mostly. Vellica works, but its a little late for my tastes. The other battles work very well, but I don't have my carthagenian models up and ready yet lol. |
