The other thread got me thinking
Always dangerous! To start then, maybe "Kingdoms of the Desert Sands:" Gaetuli, Garamantes, Mauri, Musulami --- Axum, Blemnyes, Meroe --- Hadramaut, Ma'an, Qataban, Saban?

Hohokam? Are you planning a canal building game for your next con? Check out Rice and LeBlanc Deadly Landscapes/Case Studies in Prehistoric Southwestern Warfare. There's lots of evidence for Hohokam military activity. Historically, the Tohono O'odham fought off Apache and Yuman raiders for hundreds of years, allying with Spanish, Mexicans and Americans. "Ira Hayes was a Pima Indian, one of the peaceful band, Who farmed the Phoenix valley out in Arizona-land." It wasn't that simple or that peaceful. They had to protect those cornfields. Ira Hayes came from a warrior tradition. These facts are not recognized or understood in American pop culture about The West. You can imagine, I was disapppointed when Osprey recently published American Indian Tribes of the Southwest with scarcely a mention of the Tohono O'odham. But I'll keep trying to learn and understand. YouTube link |

Jewish revolt! There are so many Early Imperial Roman armies one can choose from, but this major foe has been completely ignored. |

This is tough. If I were going to have a range of figures sculpted it would be either Byzantines for Yarmuk (Old Glory does some of these, but they aren't their best) or ACW Confederate Regs (there are a lot out there, but none of them seem to really capture what that army looked like). It would be nice to have later TYW figures. TAG does figures that are nice for the early part of the war, but later in the war it seems most folks use ECW figs that aren't quite right. |

Funnily enough no one does true Germanic warriors fro the EIR and Middle Roman. I also second the following Jewish, Garamantes, Blemnyes, Meroe, Palmyran, Hatran, and Lakhmid, Ghassanid, Herodian, Khurasanians, Heruls!, Alans
..many more to come

What should Marcomanni look like? |
BigRedBat | 05 May 2013 3:49 p.m. PST |
Marcomanni, trousered with tunics. Like the Foundry Ancient Germans, but more completely dressed! And perhaps some in captured or traded Roman gear, and a few in armour. There is also a distinctive helmet. Aventine mentioned that they might make a few Germans, I hope they do so! Cheers, Simon |

Where do you find this info? There is a book with photos of the column of Marcus Aurelius in a library not that far away, but I haven't yet made the trek. |

Since I only posted this to the Ancients Discussion Message Board, I meant
[Ancient] Armies not made in 28mm that should be
Ancient -- writ loosely, i.e. up to the Fall of Constantinople. Mind you, that is NOT to say some of the "modern" figure-lines being suggested here are not
INTERESTING

IDBI, yes from Marcus Aurelian column. Although the Germans are (mostly or all?) unarmoured, it seems likely that they would have some access to at least some armour (they defeated at least one Roman army). The helmet is in the Germanic Osprey. Cheers, Simon |

Do you have many pictures from Marcus Aurelius' column? There aren't many online and the only book I know of that has a lot is not in print (and sells for around 700usd second hand) and I've yet to make the trek to the uni library that has a copy. Searching online produces few, but mostly sections depicting romans. |
