Who makes the best Cold War-era British infantry? I'm particularly interested in ones wearing Mark V helmets?

I use GHQ's infantry and am happy with it. I haven't used other manufacturers' infantry since the late 1980s so I won't offer an opinion on those.

Infantry -- link ~17 cents per figure

Heavy Weapons -- link ~20 cents per figure.

For style, You might also check Bob Mackenzie's website and look at his infantry comparisons. link Look in the 1/300 section for Figure Reviews. He only reviews WW2 figures, but they should be representative of each company's figures.

I had H&R and also GHQ and then replaced both with Mainforce / Hallmark. They are largely in prone positions already based so no more snappoffs and in my eyes more realistic for being in combat.

Interesting that Mainforce Hallmark differentiate between Brit Reggies and TA! I remember a recruiting poster in the early 80's showing 2 identical soldiers in full CEFO with fixed bayonets, the works, with the tag line being something along the lines of:

'Which ones the Regular and which ones the Volunteer? No the enemy can't tell either' or something like that. (And yes, I fell for it!)

More seriously, do you know if they have SLRs or SA80s?

I do agree with your point about prone positions on thinking about it…Which is why a weekend of doing Section Attacks was so exhausting! – Sprint – Down – Covering fire – sprint – down -covering fire…. Probably, if you base in 4s, two figures charging and 2 prone would be the most realistic…

The ones i have are SLRs. The range does not appear to have changed since I bought mine in the 90s.

GHQ figs are overscale, if that matters to you.

Which makes the H&R ones better suited, as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure how they compare to the others on the market.

Where on earth can the Mainforce stuff be purchased? I can't seem to find it online anywhere.
