All,
Looking for tips & advice on how to model the mounted Wendol's from the movie, "13th Warrior", or if anyone make them in 25/28mm.

I was thinking of getting mounted ancient Germans/Celts with little to nothing on and sculp the bear skin…problem is I never sculpted before.

Thank you.

Early Germans (no helmets) would serve well.

A bearskin cloak would not be hard to make with Milliput and score with a modelling knife, but the head would need practice.

I would suggest practice making prototype heads mounted on wire. If you need to cover 50 to 100 heads, then think about casting them. A smaller number heads may just require practice and adding the milliput over the head.

Those that do not make the grade can be mounted on wire as trophies for the other side.

Cheers,

I agree, ancient Germans should work. I thought about using splintered light's Bear Clan warriors for 15mm. link

Didn't someone make a mold where you just pressed the green stuff into it and it made a fur-like surface that could then be applied to a miniature? Seems like there were several types produced by the same company.

In the movie, the Wendol don't have beards or mustaches. You can decide whether or not you think they look like ancient Germans.

Harlequin miniatures (I think they are now available through Black Tree) make a mounted barbarian who looks a lot like these, Essentially a booted and loin clothed berserker type with animal head dress. I added swords, javelins and burning brands and they look the part. For the foot I used the standard animal clad berserkers available from most ranges (I recommend the CRusader figure). Regards Alan

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the different options. I like the texture molds, and will have to look at the manufacture options. Once I get this ball rolling, I will post pics.

Check Buffalo warriors in plains Indians ranges. Old Glory makes them. You will probably need minimum of conversion work, if at all.

Great eye IGWARGi! Too bad the pic is a bit small on the OG25 site…but from what I can see…a lot of opportunity for minor conversions. Looks like an OG order this week.

Thanks again.

BTW – I bough sup[piles to make my furskin to add to any conversions I may have to do.

Ok, having never sculpted before, any tips on sculpting animal fur…in particular bear.

Thank you.
