I need a 28mm size trolley for my Stalingrad set. I have looked on ebay at O scale and the want $50 USD for vintage stuff- I am just going to wreck them and hate to pay that much for one.
Any ideas, also maybe a picture of one so I can make it from scrap?

Thanks guys.

Here is what they looked like – possibly get an OO scale trolley from a railroad scenics place?

Just keep trying on ebay and hope for a 'non-functioning' trolley to come up for sale.

Also, check out your local model train shows and/or swap meets. You can usually find used trains relatively cheaply.

They look pretty easy to make – source the wheels and your away. Might I suggust HO Airfix artillery wheels – any ACW or Nap set – and some plastic card?

Yeah, even used and beaten-up O-scale trolleys aren't cheap.

They go for about $30 USD on Ebay. Close enough to 28mm for wargaming, but still expensive if you're just going to wreck it.

Here's a site showing the parts breakdown, if you really want to give scratching a shot: link

EQ20 and some balsa would make a fine cart alternatively using a limber as a base (EQ14)

What about a drugstore die-cast bus (like this, for example: link ) and saw the hood/front wheels off, build up a front and back from basswood? I feel as if I've seen buses with recessed hoods in fact, but of course they're sort of catch-as-catch-can.

Whoops! Oh, you mean a tram! It's one of those transatlantic over the pond thingamajigs. I thought you meant the broken trolley in the foreground.

Yep, those are gonna be expensive.

Looks like with a little bit of "damage" and some combat painting the Thomas train cars may be the best bet….

Good find!

May have to buy one for my self?

I realize that you are asking about 28mm Trolleys and my are for 15mm but you also asked for some pictures in case you decide to build one from scratch. You can see my trolleys in pics 12, 15, 29, 42, 43, 44, and 45 at link

Not much help I'm afraid but recall seeing a resin-cast wrecked trolley in, I think, 28mm scale for use in a Berlin scenario. I've been hunting for it but no luck so far.

Lots of sources for O-scale trolley cars, just check eBay. I bought a diecast one, Corgi I think, for my city fight games.

For the avoidance of doubt, this side of the pond it's called a tram.

Arteis03 May 2013 3:42 p.m. PST

Yes, I thought he was talking about the trolley (hand-cart) too! One of the best examples I've seen for a while of totally different messages due to American vs British/Commonwealth English, with the misunderstanding enhanced by the coincidence of having a British trolley in the same pic as an American trolley!

Looks like Thomas is going to Stalingrad!

We call a trolley a dolly so…
