I've backed the Robotech kickstarter, but 99% for the figures. Any suggestions for available rules sets that can handle large scale mecha warfare in 1/300 (6mm) scale? One that has/can handle objective based scenarios and allow for combined arms (so tanks, infantry, flyers, orbital insertions and of course giant robots). Not looking for anything that's too granular and has too much crunch, my ideal game is one that takes less than 3 hours to play. Thinking of Future War Commander, Epic or
? Most of my gaming/purchasing has been almost exclusively 15mm sf, but the 6mm ranges out there may start getting some love from me as a result of buying all these robots. |

5150: Star Army or possibly Gruntz. |

Yeah, I'm with ya. I currently run a 1/200 scale Robotech game, so I'll be modifying it for use with the new minis. The new rules really don't do anything for me. As it stands (and hopefully going forward) the KS is pretty good right now – in terms of value per figure. It'll be a very nice start to a decent Robotech force. I'm curious how many of the backers are going for "unseen" Battletech mechs. In turn I wonder how many Battlepods will end up on ebay for cheap
hmmm

I'm looking for a set that can handle large battles, I think Gruntz (which I fully admire) may not cut the mustard at battalion level. Not really familiar with 5150, but thanks for the suggestion and will look that one up. @TurnStyle, I too would be interested to see what ends up on eBay from this KS. |

Thanks AB, I'm assuming you're talking about MechaWar? I like the price point. |

Yes, you can't wrong for a quid. They are also working on a third installment around infantry which means if you have all 3 rule sets you can have full on proper battles. Michael.

link This is a good one. FWC should also work link havent tried this one, but heard good things alot of 6mm rulesets should work. there is also alot of mech centric stuff like CAV, heavy gear and battletech. |

I was thinking it might be be time to revisit Battletech 3025 That is my plan also. The games always go down to the wire. |

TurnStyle, I doubt it. The Battlepods are also unseen Battlemechs. Oscroc and Ostol were both basically Battlepods and then Marauder was an officer's pod. |

Mini Mech will work too. I'm working on the conventional force stats now. |

If you want to play really fast games, I'd suggest "Panzer 8 Sci-fi". It's free and fast. panzer8.weebly.com My club enjoyed the rules enough with out 10mm rebased Mechwarrior figs that we tweaked them a bit and wrote up a full force list for them. link You many have to houserule for the jet mode though. Another ruleset worth looking into is the Battletech sub-system "Quick Strike". It's a gridless version of the faster playing mass-battle game "Battleforce" with much simplified stat cards. Right now it's available in the supplement "Strategic Operations" (a 10 buck PDF IIRC) but it's going to be released as a standalone book called "Alpha Strike" around August. TMP link video interview here: link Quickstrike Personally, I'm very excited about this book! |

I'll probably stick with the rules that come with the game unless they are broken or something. I like what I see with them so far. As an alternative
I'm leaning toward Dirtside myself, or maybe even Mekton. |

Battletech's Quickstrike rules, for $10 USD, is a VERY fun game and really fixes a lot of the issues I had with the original game. I am waiting eagerly for Polyversal to come out
and have started thinking of ways to speed Strike Legion up so it can handle larger battles with less record keeping. Other than that, Im as eager as you are to find a decent set of rules

Battletech's Quickstrike rules, for $10.00 USD , is a VERY fun game and really fixes a lot of the issues I had with the original game. As ordinarybass noted above, it might be as well to wait until Alpha Strike (discussed in this thread) is published, rather than trying to sieve the Quick-Strike rules out of the StratOps PDF. (AS won't have support for Land Air 'Mechs in the core book, but it's not impossible for LAM rules to show up in one of the subsequent expansion files.) |

I second Jovian Chronicles 2e or Heavy Gear 2e. slick system, except for the design step, and the design step you only need to do once per vehicle. It's also spreadsheet-friendly. Make a master sheet, and mark up copies. Or do what the Robotech Kickstarter is up to and laminate the design cards so you can use china marker or wet-erease markers. And yes, it's designed for Robotech/Gundam style shenanigans, but works very well even without vehicle close combat (same rules as in Gear Krieg). |

The updates over the weekend impressed me. While I don't think this will get Zombicide silly with the amount of figures you get, I'm very pleased with what I'm getting as part of my Battle Cry pledge. Trying to resist getting the MkII deal, while it's nice to recreate the Daedelus I'm not sure I'm going to get much use from three of those monsters in regular gaming. Am checking through all the reccomended rules above, really grateful for the assistance on this guys. |

FWC will work just fine if you like the Warmaster style of Command and Control. Subject to points used and army tpye battles range in time to complete from under 2 hours to 4 hourse so should fit your timeframe. |
| darthfozzywig | 12 May 2013 8:41 a.m. PST |
Oooooh FWC! I hadn't even thought of that. Plays quickly and doesn't get bogged down tracking individual damage like Battletech: units get blowed up or they don't. That works really well for Robotech – damage was always binary in the show; either you were fighting at full power or you exploded. |

You could use BATTLETECH
. Now THAT would be ironic

I just succumbed to the Daedalus package (and a whole bunch of other add-ons) It's pretty close to getting a free Monster or 4 free destroids. |

Actually, with their new posted MSRPs, you will essentially get all the destroids for free. |
