After reading Ifat's and Bongolesia's DRNSA, GRU, Bureau 13, UNCLE, THRUSH & CIA reports I kept thinking
If you don't have enough Monkey Model MBT's, spread them out-2 per platoon matched with three APC/Lt.Tank variants(like the M113/60mm HVMS turreted afv). They'll keep those Recon , infatry and ATGM carriers away.
If you have a HUGE amount of obsolete afv's, turn them into apc's/wpn carriers, ambulances, arty tractors and supply vehicles.
Give your milita/tribesman Battle Rifles(SKS, M14, FN FAL, BM59 etc.)-meet with theier leaders, reward them for POW's, downed pilots and NOT shooting the annoying photojournalist.
Modern airforces are too expensive-invest in SAMs&AAA, they don't stop air attacks but they'll make them expensive. Use Gunships(helo-and Cargo) and Pucara-type attack aircraft-they can carry a lot, even 2 AA missiles to ruin their day
Plant Depots and FARPs every where.
Have backup communications ready-even a WWI/phone&courier system is better than none at all.
Feed your people. If you are embargo'd, play the Plight of the Masses Card with the UN/allied SuperPower. Make sure everything you get can be used(tractor factories can make afv's).
Don't bother with nuke plants-go GeoThermal,. A actve volcano is great for this AND you can use it for loyalty tests, getting rid of evidence, bodies etc.
Keep your resource surveys secret. Every Imagination has ONE resource a SuperPower can't do without, play iyt for all it's worth but keep discoveries hidden as a trump card.
Forget female bodyguards, form women's militia groups to defend crucial villages/townships and throughfares. They'll be fanatic defending their home and it frees up men for your army.(DON"T arm children, ultimate bad press but have a Scout training org to prepare them when they come of age).
