I signed up for the Defiance Games UNAC Marines pre-order special when they offered the special limited edition Gunny figure for all involved. The 3D render of the figure looks great and reminds me of Clint Eastwoods Gunnery Sergeant Highway character from Heartbreak Ridge and also the Capital Sgt Carter character from Warzone.

Anyways I received the box of marines when promised but with a note stating that Gunny would arrive later. Overall I was pretty happy with my UNAS Marines. However, I've only gotten to the point of de-spruing them into a box for later assembly.

About a year later, still no Gunny had shown up in the mail and I pretty much had forgotten about him. Occasionally I was reminded whenever I saw a notice for a new release from Defiance on TMP or some other site came up and inquired about when they'd release Gunny. I never got an answer back about Gunny however, and I pretty much gave up on it thinking that it was never made. However, now that I think about it, I don't think I ever really directly inquired to Defiance on the status.

Then a month ago I see a photo on their Facebook page of a finished Gunny model. I posted a comment on the photo that I see he exists and that I had never received my promised model.

I got a response back right away from Gary Pelletier apologizing that I was missed and to send him an email with my address and he'd correct this right away. I did send an email out with my address and reference to the original order. Then followed up a week later and recieved another apology that there was some confusion at their shop due to the Boston bombing. I recall on their Facebook page that they were shutdown around this time.

A few days ago I then received an email confirming the figure was sent out with a tracking number from Gary Pelletier. The package arrived last night with Gunny and few sprues of UNAC Marines.

I'd have to say that, despite all the issues raised here on TMP with Defiance, I think I was treated fairly given the mixup and Defiance did come through as promised. So I'd like to state some positive news about Defiance.

Overall I think their figures look pretty damn good and would like to sample the Germans and Bugs now. Now I'm looking forward to assembling these marines.

Overall, I like the UNAC figs.
NOT a fan of the helmets, so I ordered some Pig Irons to replace them.

But the figs themselves are really impressive!

I never got mine, either. Good for you that you finally got it.

Hopefully yours arrives too.

I had pretty much given up hope thinking that the figure was "vaporware" and never to be realized until I saw the photo of him on their Facebook page.

I recommend you email Gary to remind him of your pending delivery. If that doesn't work, I've found posting a reminder nicely on one's Facebook page a "gentle push".

The figure is a single piece casting with a separate base and is resin. The base is identical to the standard Defiance bases but cast in this resin material. The material is pretty stiff and could almost be mistaken for their injection molded plastic, aside from the slight difference in color and the few minute bubbles. I found a few around the soles fo the boots and one on his chin.

Pewter and IM Plastic are my preferred materials for minis. The bubble on the chin reminded me of GW's Finecast. However, the figure overall looks cleaner than most examples from GW and I'm pretty sure I can easily fix the one visible flaw. The bubbles around the boots are so small they will most likely be lost when I glue him to the base and add some turf to it. For a limited edition figure, I can see why this guy is cast in resin.
