Is the current codex on the GW website compatible with 6th edition WFB? I've heard nothing but nightmares about 8th, and I think if I start playing again I'll be using what I have (6th). |

The current Dwarf army book is the same book as 6th edition. Dwarfs were the last 6th edition army book and have not been updated since. |

Same as with Bretonnians--never got a 7th edition army book either. Lizardmen book is rumored to be released for 8th edition by end of this calendar year. |

Dwarfs were actually like the third book in 6th and then got a update just before the change over to 7th. "Everyone" says that the second book was written with 7th edition in mind, but it had several references to rules used in 6th that were no longer used in 7th. Same thing happened to Orks in WH40K. "Everyone" says that the book they got at the tail end of 4th edition was written with 5th edition in mind. Never mind that lots of the rules for vehicle combat changed in 5th and made a lot of the ork vehicle upgrades into "head scratchers". This was a big part of what killed staying current with 40K for me. Now I just play "Core-book 3rd" or Rogue Trader. |

For those of us that still enjoy both Warhammer Fantasy Battle and 40K, yet are fed up with the constant edition updates and Codex creep, I think you are beginning to see a number of long time players either stay with their favorite edition or decide to go back to an earlier edition. It is possible to find earlier army books and codexes online. Our gaming group recently started playing WFB again and for now we have decided to keep with 7th but adding back in some things we liked from 6th. |

I have mentioned this before, but the fact that army books are scattered across decades, multiple writers, and several editions make for a serious problem. I have gone to the 6th edition Ravening Hordes booklet and 8th edition for WFB. I have been playing since 2nd edition and I think 8th has a lot of really good things to offer. So far it seems like a reasonable solution. I am tweaking the army builder files to include the Dogs of War list from the annual. Few army wide special rules, far less special magic items, and only uses standard lores of magic. It is less fantastic buts makes for a decent game. |

That's not a bad approach, KenofYork. |

"Is the current codex on the GW website compatible with 6th edition WFB? I've heard nothing but nightmares about 8th, and I think if I start playing again I'll be using what I have (6th)." Well 8th does have some very good things in it. Like the Step-up Rule so no more charging a huge unit with just 6 Cavalry and causing it to rout. But is also has some very bad things in it. Like bring back the unit killing spells with out any limitations on them. My suggestions is: Take the best pieces of 3rd – 8th Edition and come up with your own rules. Because GW just hands the writing of the rules to individuals who have no clue on balance, or ability to wirte a decent set of rules. |
