Guys, I hope you don't mind me posting this here but I've recently set up a gaming club and it then struck me that I need some way to record members & attendance. Paper and pencil I hear you shout :-) Ye well, that would be too easy so I decided to write a simple database I can stick on my iPhone to do the job for me. I've just made it available for free at the link below to anyone else who has a similar need. This is version 1 so it will change as I find out what I need it to do. link Enjoy Gary |

So you have registered with the data protection commission? And paid the appropriate dues? (don't do it electronically
.) I don't enjoy pencil and paper – but it is safer – you can dispose of it by burning or eating the paper. |

Can't you do that in a EXCEL spreadsheet? My Android allows EXCEL to work on it

So you have registered with the data protection commission? And paid the appropriate dues? Registering with the ICO is not required for not-for-profit organisations such as a gaming club. link |

Thanks for that, When my friend ran one at a council premises he was advised to not computerise because of proving that they met the criteria. |

When my friend ran one at a council premises he was advised to not computerise because of proving that they met the criteria. The Data Protection Act 1998 applies both to computer records and those held in a "relevant filing system": ""data" means information which— (a)is being processed by means of equipment operating automatically in response to instructions given for that purpose, (b)is recorded with the intention that it should be processed by means of such equipment, (c)is recorded as part of a relevant filing system or with the intention that it should form part of a relevant filing system," link |

We don't record attendance any more, although I guess it is up to individual clubs. As above, the DPA applies to all data, not just electronic. |

Some venues (particularly council-run ones) certainly require a register to be kept for fire evacuation purposes. Dunno why you'd want to keep a historical record though, unless it's to record how much subs has been paid (though that's only any good if someone other than the treasurer keeps a copy. We once had our club treasurer do a runner to the USA with the club's cash, but couldn't prove it, as he was the only one with the records of how much cash he had! You live and learn
). |

Why??? Why not :-) I think FileMaker Go has an Android version. FileMaker Pro is cross platform and this will run on that, although you'd need a copy and it is optimised for an iPhone (so will look pants on a big screen if you make the window too large :-) I write databases for a living and enjoy it, hence putting this together ;-) Gary |

I've been using the app for a couple of weeks now and it seems to work well. Once I've got some more data in it I can start adding some more features. I've enlarged the home button and it was a bit fiddly to use, other than that it remains unchanged. Gary |
