I am taking my Scout Troop to Gettysburg this weekend. We do this trip every few years (although this makes the second year in a row back by popular demand.) In the morning we generally tour parts of the battlefield. I was wondering if there are any reenactors that will be there this weekend. Does anyone have any interest in speaking about your reenacting and showing them your equipment and or giving a 1-2 tour to a bunch of scouts and parents? As they are younger teen boys they can lose interest after a few hours and doing a car or bus tour isn't in the budget. If anyone has any information or is interested contact me at: brigadegames AT yahoo DOT com I would say I could buy you a few beers but that isn't allowed when on a scout trip. I could arrange that at Historicon, COld Wars or Fall In though. Thanks in advance |

I don't see any on teh NPS schedule. Seems all the action is down at the Chencellorsville battlefield (150 anniversary) this weekend! Mike |

Check out some of the local shops. There is one on the left side just past the old entry to the old visitor center that use to have a living history display on weekend during the warmer months on the front lawn. I can't remember the store but it was well represented when I was there last. VR James Mattes |

The one James is referring to is the Civil War wax museum and you might want to give them a call and see if anything is planned. |

Yes, saw that there was an official weekend a few weeks ago. Yeah, I figure those reenactors will be there as it will be nice this weekend. |

link Not sure if this helps, but our group will be doing a small event at the Carroll County Farm Museum. You might be able to stop on your way to or from NJ. Mark |

The NPS doesn't like reenactors walking around on the Gettysburg battlefield with weapons. So if you manage to arrange something with a reenacting group it would have to be off site. |

Mark – thanks for the link. Unfortunately we are traveling from NJ. Thanks Terry – good to know. I am hoping that there are some reenactors in town as there usually are this time of year. |

"The NPS doesn't like reenactors walking around on the Gettysburg battlefield with weapons. So if you manage to arrange something with a reenacting group it would have to be off site." Actually, the policy at the park has become totally bizarro in the last few years. I'm a reenactor who does a yearly living history program at the park. As a volunteer I'm considered a 'temporary park employee' and as such I have to adhere to their rather strict weapons policy. HOWEVER, a few years back the NPS was forced to change its weapons policy regarding visitors to match the regulations of the state the park is located in. Since Pennsylvania is an 'open carry' state, visitors can carry loaded weapons in the park. So, when I go as a volunteer I have to toe the line and keep my weapon and blanks ammo in carefully regulated areas. BUT if I just show up on my own in uniform I can carry a fully loaded Springfield rifle with 40 rounds of live ammo in my cartridge box! Isn't bureaucracy great? |

I'm always envious of the sheer presentation quality of ACW reenactors compared to medieval ones..especially here in the UK; not that there are n't some really conscientious medievalists out there, but they are thin on the ground. |
