Some armies had spears with large heads and some with smaller heads. Are you gamers generally picky about the type of spear you use with your forces? I'm a bit irritated with my long shafted weapons getting bent in tabletop play. I know I'm probably behind the curve here but I'd like to replace them with some unbendable (or
um
stiffer ones). Is this a good idea or bad? Have you found this relatively easy or difficult to accomplish? Are there manufacturers of replacement (generally unbendable) spears that make them with different head sizes? Some general figures (please agree or disagree – I'm looking for help here
): Javelins less than the height of a 25/28mm figure – maybe 3/4 the size of the figure?; Spears – same height or slightly taller than the figure?; Greek spears – half again as tall as the figure?; Hypaspists/ Iphekretan (Sp?) spears – twice as tall as the figure?; Pikes – 3 or 4 times the height of the figure?; Sarissae – 5 or 6 times the figures height? Thx, Mike |

I use the Northstar spears/ pikes. I cut them down to the size that I use. Mike |

Like Mr 1950, I bought some Northstar pikes a while ago & have used those. I dont remember if they have different sized heads available. But I did make sure to get the longes ones possible, & I've used the trimmed off bits for pinning models together. So none if it goes to waste. |

I'm with you – I hate bendy pikes and spears. I always use the 100mm Northstar spears/pike. These look great and do not bend. In addition, the thickness is more in-line with the scale of the figures. I can't remember exact measurements but here is what I generally do for lengths I think: Pike: ~ 85mm Long Spears: ~40-45mm Jevelins: ~30mm Good luck! |

I used Northstar pikes (cut to size) for my Crusades and Punic Wars stuff. I use them for most of the stuff I do for clients. I don't use Northstar pikes for my Italian Wars pike as I prefer to use 0.047 piano wire by K&S for that. The look of the Northstar spearheads is excellent but they can be painful – piano wire, being blunt, is less 'bodily harmful', and you don't notice the shape of the heads in play. Ho hum, providing they don't bend, not bothered about heads. |
