Thanks very much you guys! Unfortunately I have been sucked back into the vortex of work, but I will tell you this: without being engineered or puppeteered in any way, the last man standing on the Legion side was none other than Captain Danjou himself! After charging out of the North-West corner room of the hacienda's ground floor together with one of the last handfuls of unwounded Legionnaires, he foudn himself alone agaisnt 40 Mexicans. He killed the first one with a "6" vs. the Mexican's "1" -- to loud yells of triumph from the 2 remaining Legion players (myself and a fellow named Odin!) -- then tragically rolled a "2" vs. a "6" from the second of the 40 Mexicans. Since Danjou's modifiers totalled only +1 (1 for being in the Legion, and 1 for being an officer &/or hero) he had a total of 3, which left him KIA. In truth a fitting end for the man who swore asked his entire command to swear an oath not to surrender. A few turns prior, another handful of Legion wounded in the South-West corner shed had surrendered. Corporal Berg -- another of the last of the best -- charged out the corner room of the hacienda onto the convoy road and took out a lot of Mexicans before falling KIA himself. I will be back with tons of pics and some more details as soon as work calms down a bit, I swear! Until then -- VIVE LA LEGION! And because I just can't help myself
here's a pic of Danjou alone at the start of the final melee phase of the last turn (number 14) of the game: (please NOTE: though only about 18 Mexicans are visible in this shot, the line of attackers snaked much further to the right, in a big compressed oval surrounding Captain Danjou)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Dearest Ged, If only you'd done some stripped down legionaires in time for the 150th Anniversary
but -- BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!!! Please do them now and I promise to buy them, and hopefully have them ready in time for NEXT April 30th! It would be great if you did at least one PRONE Legionnaire, to use as Sgt. Morzycki atop the hacienda roof, or one of his comrades atop any of the various rooftops on the buildings and sheds, and/or also as any Legionnaire down on the ground during the later stages of the battle. It would also be fantastic to have a figure for FUSILIER KONRAD -- Danjou's adjutant with the WINE BOTTLE poking out of his haversack, or perhaps gripped in one hand or cradeled under one arm. We used a Foundry FPW French bugler nicely converted by Nick Stern, but IMHO it does merit its own figure, as does DRUMMER LAI -- who could easily also be used as a Foreign Regiment or French Regular DRUMMER for any unit, not just the Legion at Camerone. Last but not least -- A THIRD LEGION OFFICER, CARRYING A RIFLE, for use as either Maudet or Villain. You've already got 2, why not free the faithful from having to convert a third in order to have the 3 different Legion officers at Camerone
??? I realize these are my personal MAD FIGURE CRAVINGS, and that you must of course follow your own "Gringo" desires when choosing figures to add to your various ranges in general, and this one range in particular
but right now you are THIS CLOSE to having the definitive "Camerone" minis in 28mm scale
by adding your "stripped down" legionnaires SANS backpacks -- and hopefully mostly in combat-friendly KEPIS rather than road-march-friendly sombreros or "boaters" -- you will be much closer, and then, if you can find a way to add just a third variation of Legion officer, and a single prone legionnaire
you WILL be there. Here's a few more pics of your minis locked in battle on Camerone Day. There are more where these came from, and if you get Drummer Lai sculpted as well, I promise to send you a DISC full of them!!!

Still haven't had time to upload the hundreds of pics I took, or even see the high-quality pics my photographer/gamer buddy took with his pair of pro cameras, but here's one more nice pic that caught my eye, of all the terrain on the table before any figures were set down, with the abandoned canal dam visible at the North edge of the table, on the 2'x2' add-on terrain board:

I have the first set of Legion figures from Gringo40s, bought "so that I can do Camerone some day". I fully intend to buy everything you release for this, Ged. Perhaps for next 30th april. Or at the speed I paint, more like Camerone 160. Lovely game, Mad Guru. I will be looking through all the pics you have posted over the coming weeks. |

kingscarbine, Lion, & Thomas, Thanks for the kind words! Please remember, Ged: the more Camerone-useful Legionnaires, the better! |

Mad Guru, Magnificent! I built a much smaller version years ago from foamcore. Your models are superb! I too would love to see some more "stripped down" legionaires. Sincerely, Tom |
