Not sure of the connotation, but it seems to be a movie about the Maximilian Adventure and the Mexican struggle against the French.

Well…
seeing a lot of bull…err exaggeration
6500 French;less than 500 casualties; mostly from unsupported (by heavy artillery) assaults on fortified convents.
Ok they lost and withdrew; Ok the Mexicans were rather heroic…Maybe. well… A setback; from a big skirmish.
And why, why do they have 1914 like explosions from guns instead of canister, at that range???
sigh

Love the titles at the end of the trailer.

"It isn't a party"

"It's War!"

Propaganda film but hey being from Texas so was the Alamo.

What would wargamers do without propaganda?

It looks like they did a decent job with the uniforms.

Fellas, fellas! Decent looking uniforms! Good looking Spanish women! And you're complaining about historical accuracy?

I'm searching in vain for a UK release date. According to one blurb, Napoleon III is setting up a Mexican monarchy so he can support the confederacy in the Civil War, so the plotting may be a little OTT & I suspect it will be a pedestrian 'Against the odds' patriotic battle pic but the production values seem high. I've been printing off stills from the FB page for reference – lots of nice images available.

& It's not like there are so many Maximilian Adventure movies we can be over-choosy…

Them pesky Frenchies trying to steal Mexico! Where is Sharpe and his Rifles when you need him?

from what i have seen of the trailer shots the film looks

pretty dramatic with some good looking uniforms and has a

real buzz about it……………..spotted the odd French

Zouave .my guess is they will use Mexican actors for the

french and imperial forces which is fine for the latter

anyways top bit of cinematoghraphy…

Well check out the "re-enactors" uniforms from the official tourist website for the battle. More like something out of Mardi Gras.

It's a nonsense, but may be included to appeal to US audiences – the Frenchies being a threat to them…

CooperSteveOnTheLaptop10 May 2013 3:40 a.m. PST

'Their "evil" is made more complete with scenes of the French burning villages, torturing, murdering, and raping.'

The reality is what makes this war so interesting – the mix of old-school gallantry, even chivalry, with bestial atrocity from BOTH sides…
