This : link is the top 10 aliens on TV SF, according to The Guardian. I put it to the TMP membership that they are seriously deluded. What should be the top 10 ? |
| Angel Barracks | 30 Apr 2013 4:22 a.m. PST |
Hmmm tricky when just TV. In no particular order: Klingons Time Lords Daleks Weeping Angels Ood The ones from V Greys The Martian Brothers from Pocoyo Vogons That is about all that springs to mind for now.. |
| Black Bull | 30 Apr 2013 4:55 a.m. PST |
Well it is the Guardian so I would expect it to be abit different. |
20thmaine | 30 Apr 2013 4:57 a.m. PST |
I'm going with (also in no particular order) Vulcans Daleks Cybermen The Mysterons Tribbles Gorn Time Lords (classic Dr Who) Osirians (Dr Who again – Pyramids of Mars) Sontarans Jaggaroth |
20thmaine | 30 Apr 2013 4:58 a.m. PST |
Well it is the Guardian so I would expect it to be abit different.
I was surprised that it was just a puff piece for a new SF series – pretty poor IMHO |
| John the Greater | 30 Apr 2013 5:53 a.m. PST |
No Cylons? No Daleks? No Romulans? This isn't a top ten list, it's the remaindered pile. |
| ubercommando | 30 Apr 2013 6:06 a.m. PST |
Daleks Vulcans The Alien Wherever Klaatu was supposed to be from Thermians Centari & Narn (can't have one without the other) Wherever the aliens from UFO were supposed to be from Cybermen Klingons Romulans |

Good call on Centarri and Nan, and the UFO Alien (almost made my top 10 as well) |
| kabrank | 30 Apr 2013 6:13 a.m. PST |
One suspects the Alien from the film Alien |
Frederick | 30 Apr 2013 6:17 a.m. PST |
Interesting choices – I think that the Defiance aliens are too new to include in the top 10, but given time I think the Volge might get there I must say that I did not even know the Medusans existed I would say (in no particular order) Klingons Romulans Gorn Weeping Angels Vorlons (Babylon 5 – love them suits) Daleks (they take a lickin' and keep on tickin') Yuuzhan Vong (Star Wars) Kodan (The last Starfighter – hey, not that memorable a movie, but the Kodan seemed interesting) Predators (nobody shares the love like a Predator) Volge (like I said, they have potential) |
| Angel Barracks | 30 Apr 2013 6:20 a.m. PST |
tsk tsk, more aliens from films being listed. Shame on you all. :D

| vojvoda | 30 Apr 2013 6:47 a.m. PST |
The Hot babe on V series, the hot green alien from Star Track, The hot babe from Star Trek the next Generation, you get the idea. VR James Mattes |

TV only. Vulcans
Klingons Cylons (old school) Daleks The Doctor Goa'uld Minbari Narn Vorlons The last goes to Farscape, too many to list but all noteworthy
by far the best collection of TV aliens in one location. All had original looks and many had bizarre and thus alien behaviors. |

So many to choose from and all depends what you mean by top 10 Aliens on TV? Cybermen Daleks Klingons Vorlons Minbari UFO Aliens Time Lords The Mysterons The Borg Zen (Blakes 7) I vaguely remember Farscape, but I couldn't put names to any of them (a TV series that I will have to get on DVD one day). |

All these good ones so far, but no one has mentioned the Chigs from Space Above and Beyond? Or did I miss them on the list? |
| billthecat | 30 Apr 2013 9:44 a.m. PST |
Top? What is the criteria? Hours broadcast? General knowledge? Popularity? Popularity based on what? Who you want for neighbors? Silly? Scary? Believable? Original? BBC only? For how long? etc
etc
etc
Just saying
otherwise the 'data' is rather meaningless

Agree with billthecat, just 10 doesn't even allow them to run the scope of TV alien shows by giving props to all the major players. As for my #1 vote
Humans They're the aliens in a lot of SciFi TV shows. |
20thmaine | 30 Apr 2013 11:43 a.m. PST |
Top? What is the criteria? Any criteria you like – it's just a fun TMP poll kicked off by the original list from The Guardian. I went with the ones I like the most. I probably wouldn't go with the ones I like the least. (Top 10 TV aliens you like the least? Nah ). |
Parzival | 30 Apr 2013 12:35 p.m. PST |
My list, based on my viewings of TV, in no particular order (that applies to the list and my viewing): Vulcans Klingons Romulans The Borg Ferengi Cylons Chigs Odo/The Founders (DS9) The Horta The Shadows (B5) The Vorlons (B5) Tholians Okay, that's more than ten. It's TMP— I can list what I like. Why did I not list anything from Dr. Who? I've never seen them in a full episode. Finding copies of Dr. Who locally (without paying an arm and a leg) is like finding a copy of Man O' War. So all I can go on is imagery and bits and pieces. (Yes, I know about Netflix. No, I cannot currently budget for that.) The Daleks look like a cross between a jukebox and a plumber's friend, and they clearly are defeated simply by stairs. The rest, well, somebody needed to find a better designer for that series
but I will readily admit that I would like to have my opinions enlightened. I've got years of catching up to do

What about the Vogons? All round badass characters, either destroying planets or writing poetry. |
| Landorl | 30 Apr 2013 1:34 p.m. PST |
That was a horrible article! 2 of the groups were from a show that only has 2 episodes so far! (no order) 1. Klingons 2. Borg 3. System Lords 4. The Wraith 5. Chigs (space above and beyond) 6. Cylons 7. Daleks 8. The Shadows 9. Cybermen 10. Aliens from Falling Skies (not sure what they are called) |
20thmaine | 30 Apr 2013 1:45 p.m. PST |
Why did I not list anything from Dr. Who? I've never seen them in a full episode. You could try
Youtube
.don't tell anyone I told you ! Mum's the word! |
| billthecat | 30 Apr 2013 1:56 p.m. PST |
Okay then, 'top ten personal favorites'
. mine would include Daleks, ALF, and all of the aliens from the old Hartnell story 'The Web Planet'
and let's not forget Ford Prefect. |
BlackWidowPilot | 30 Apr 2013 2:16 p.m. PST |
Television? Hmmm
1) Kzinti (who appeared in the animated Star Trek TV series. Niiice kitty! Scream and leap! ). 2) Vogons (whose poetry is a WMD). 3) Klingons (Vikings innnn spaaaace!). 4) Romulans (Romannns innnn spaaaace!). 5) Vulcans (a logical choice). 6) Daleks (xenophobic, psychotic, genocidal salt shakers with energy cannons? What's not to love?! ). 7) Elasians, specifically The Dolman of Elas Herself (Self explanatory, really. ):
8) Cylons (original). 9) Cylons (updated). 10) The Ferengi (whose culture defies all logic). Hmmm
somehow I can see a large professional mercenary company drawn from all of these races led by the Dolman of Elas
.

Such a lot o good choices. I think I'll just endorse all of ubercommando's. Or Parcival's. Or Leland's
No – I'll stick with those of ubercommando. John T (But the Dolman of Elas was a saucy wench

In no particular order - Species 8472 Shadows Ood Daleks Pilot from FARSCAPE Pak'Ma'Ra Vorlon The Mysterons Na'Ka'Leen Feeders The Xanti . . . Aaand I notice a couple of biases in that list. Time for a poll, perhaps? :) |
| Sargonarhes | 30 Apr 2013 5:10 p.m. PST |
TV aliens only
In no certain order. Vorlons (B5) Shadows (B5) Narns (B5) Gorn (Star Trek) Minbari (B5) Klingon (Star Trek) Invid (Robotech) Oni (Urusei Yatsura the Oni are the aliens) Dragonites (Outlaw Star and Angel Links) Daleks (Dr Who) |

and let's not forget Ford Prefect. Good Choice !!! I'm adding Zaphod Beeblebrox – how I could have forgotten about the president of the galaxy I really don't know ! |
| ubercommando | 01 May 2013 5:39 a.m. PST |
the criteria was TV aliens, not necessarily aliens created for TV shows. As my first experience of watching Alien was on TV, then I'm claiming it counts! |
etotheipi | 01 May 2013 8:49 a.m. PST |
The Daleks look like a cross between a jukebox and a plumber's friend, and they clearly are defeated simply by stairs. One of the few true high points of the new Dr. Who series was when this issue was made fun of (and the Daleks overcame this obvious deficiency). |

Orks: East End Cockney soccer hooligans.
Eldar: Tolkien's elves. The name "Eldar" in fact hails from the Silmarillion if memory serves correct
Dark Eldar: Melniboneans from Michael Moorcock's Elric saga. WH40KRT/WH40K is very much a British creation, and its Anglocentric roots in British literary fiction run deep accordingly
