We recently played a scenario using the Rank and File ruleset. An AAR with plenty of photos and some comments on the rules can be found here. linkJohn |

Hi Very nice AAR and comments on your experience. It looked like a real 'slugfest' as attention seemed fixed on the fight to secure the bridge. FWIW: You seem to be fighting over a very limited space – in the 3/6/10mm range you would have far more possibilities to extend your battle front and add the possibility of forcing commanders to 'spread' their forces. |

That day we had a 8x6' terrain available but elected to go to a 6x4' in order to bring the troops quickly into battle. John |

It seems to me that the French player's evaluation of the rules was influenced by his loss. And his loss may have been the result of poor tactics. |

Nice report and photos. The rules are worth persisting with if you enjoy them. |

Thanks for the report. I'm surprised that for rules that are supposed to be tactical the units are referred to as "stands". I have a strong dislike for rules that talk about castings, stands, bases, elements rather than use the historical terms of companies, battalions, sections, squadrons, etc. It just removes a layer of colour and atmosphere for me. Each to their own of course, we all like different things. |

Stands reflects the fact you can vary the man v model ratio to whatever you wish e.g 1:5 up to 1:200. Then a stand becomes whatever formation you choose it to reflect. |

Purely my language, the rules are quite traditional. The size of a battalion is reflected by how many bases it has. John |
