Having been captivated by the images of Perry Miniatures WW2 Desert Rats (28mm) I'm looking to delve into a series of skirmish games using those figures. I am looking to purchase IABSM rules but am in a slight quandary over which rules supplement to go for (the key here being suitable figures as opponents to Perry's Rats). I want North African scenarios involving, Brits & Commonwealth, DaF, and Italians. What in your opinion would likely suit me better, Too Fat Lardies "Operation Compass" or "In the Footsteps of Legions"? Many thanks in advance. |

Legions isn't a scenario book, just stats and to&es – you'd want Operation Compass. That said, IABSM is a company-level set rather than platoon-level, so may not be what you're after. Their forthcoming Chain of Command rules (due in the summer) are probably a much better "fit" for the Perry stuff, being designed for a platoon a side plus the odd support. For scenarios, I'd take a look at the Skirmish Campaigns books from Scott Fisher – those are more skirmish sized than the IABSM supplements. I don't have their North Africa books, but I'd guess this is a likely candidate: link |

An IABSM scenario supplement for North Africa 1941 -1942 is long overdue but doesn't seem to be on the agenda at the moment. Troops Weapons & Tactics is IABSM's younger brother and focuses on platoon size actions, with card activation by section. Chain of Command is a different concept (dice activation rather than cards) and will be worth considering when it is out. If you fancy the TFL system and don't want to wait, I would recommend TW&T. As Dom said, Skirmish Campaigns have some North Africa books. The best for what you want is probably "Italian Misadventure and the arrival of the DAK". |

Join the TFL Yahoo Group link Look in the file section for IABSM SotM Archives and you will find three scenarios for North Africa Two Fat Ladies . . . 88!/1941 The Road to Sidi Azeiz/1941 The Pass End of Nowhere/1942 As noted above these are company level but you could probably scale down to a platoon in at least one of them. Substitute sections for platoons and a platoon HQ for the company HQ and adjust supports. Once a member of the group you can ask the same question there;I'm sure others have resources to share. |
