What do you do when waiting for your new desirable residence to be completed? Any Crusades taking place? For my interest, this project due for completion in 2020-ish is moving along too slowly. But upon finish do you think it would form the basis of a wargame castle for production? 15mm or 28mm scale? guedelon.fr/en |

Now that is very neat. It is also the perfect excuse for having an old-timey castle and village in a sci fi game--as a teaching/reenactor/historical entertainment set. Of course, then there's people like my wife, who, upon seeing this say, "Why?" Rob |

I visited it with my family about four years ago. It is really quite amazing to behold. |

Of course, then there's people like my wife, who, upon seeing this say, "Why?" Obviously, "Because it's not there." |

I saw a documentary about this one. I hope one day I'll be able to visit it. |

I just stumbled across the site for this castle project. I felt super compelled to post some kind of gob-smacked post with a link, but thought to do a message board search first. So I'll just give this thread a bump because I just have to say
.WOW. One more project for my someday lottery fortune. |

The whole interest of the project is its building. When it will be finished it will be less interesting; I think they are planning something else afterwards (a cathedral?) |

I visited Guedelon two years ago and it's a stunning project. What really makes it isn't really the castle itself, but the dozens of tradespeople around it, quarrying, dressing stone, cutting wood, making charcoal, making rope, making baskets, making lime-mortar, metalworking, dying, weaving, sawing, carting, joining and building. |

VERY cool. I will have to put that on the agenda for a visit while it is still under construction Of course, maybe when it is done they could stage a siege, destroy it and start again. I would absolutely volunteer for siegework. |

I heard about this a few years ago and forgot about it. I didn't know it was still going on. |
