How much interest would there be in a 15mm scale superspy range based on 60s superspy films?

Line might be:

Superspy in tuxedo, suit, and bathing suit with snorkel gear
Super spy's hot girls
Super villains
Henchman leaders, including huge Asian with hat attack
Henchmen with SMGs
Asian henchmen

I would probably make a few 60s cars as well. I have affection for these old films (perhaps due to my affection for the martini, one of which im sipping as i type this) but its been quite well done in 28mm so I'm curious to see what you think about 15mm. I might even ask an incomparable certain someone to make the superspy models….

Gunner Dunbar26 Apr 2013 9:01 p.m. PST

Sharks with friggen laser beams?

khurasanminiatures26 Apr 2013 9:03 p.m. PST

I already make those, do keep up. grin

mad monkey 126 Apr 2013 9:20 p.m. PST

lol. A martini sounds good too.

khurasanminiatures26 Apr 2013 9:25 p.m. PST

Keep your hands off my martini! grin

Yes actually the chap in tux would be fun with a silenced ppk in one hand and a martini in another ….

Victor Kravenhoff26 Apr 2013 9:28 p.m. PST

I would like it; the uses would be endless!

The Bebop26 Apr 2013 9:41 p.m. PST

I think I would rather like to see a "scifi" superspy range that was inspired by 60's spy films than a straight 60's era range.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut26 Apr 2013 9:50 p.m. PST

Sounds like a whole new range of Traveller figs to me… I'll buy a set as soon as my financial situation improves…

shelldrake26 Apr 2013 9:51 p.m. PST

sounds very tempting…

Jojojimmyjohn26 Apr 2013 10:41 p.m. PST

Yes please, especially if the "incomparable someone" is sculpting. I assume the villains would include a fellow with a cat and our hero would be able to call upon the assistance of a certain happy CIA agent or even a local sheriff if needed?

blooddave26 Apr 2013 10:47 p.m. PST

I would buy those. Just finishing your 15mm scientists right now – waiting for the wash to dry so I can dry brush them.

Mako1126 Apr 2013 11:41 p.m. PST

Sounds excellent to me.

Those super-sexy females could actually be double-agents, or assassins.

We need "Thunderball" swimmers too, since the company that used to produce those, and the minisubs hasn't done that in ages.

Secret Agent Man, Man from Uncle, 007, would all be superb.

Trojan Points26 Apr 2013 11:47 p.m. PST

Oh yes please, pretty pretty please…

Crooked Dice has been testing my vow not to buy 28mm for so long… But even if the amount of minis needed wouldn't be an unbearable hit on my wallet, the modular evil mastermind that game just beg for just isn't an option in 28mm.

I've been thinking about 15mm superspy, started sourcing some suitable mini, sketching the said lair and what you propose could just be what was missing!

So yes yes yes lot of interest here!

Muncehead26 Apr 2013 11:54 p.m. PST

60s super spies and their future counterparts would be great …….don't forget the kilted large ginger Scotsman!

Trojan Points26 Apr 2013 11:58 p.m. PST

Not sure about the technical/economical feasibility. But having boiler suit minions available with either several head options or as several different packs with e.g. hard hat, watch cap, beret… Would be so cool! What about a couple of big German shepherds to go with them…

republic of tolworth27 Apr 2013 1:50 a.m. PST

Yes to all and any options. Like others anything 7tv would be good. technicans, scientists, henchmen in all their variation.
Scifi and 60s versions would be good. Space 1999 style would be good.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian27 Apr 2013 1:55 a.m. PST

Um, yeah! Along with 60s sci-fi, absolutely, preferably of the UFO/SHADO variety…evil grin

deflatermouse27 Apr 2013 1:59 a.m. PST

yes interested.
A second vote for use with 7TV.
As everything else of mine is in 15mm, the change over to 28mm is not an option.
.
.
.
however if they were 15's..hmmm…yes

captainquirk27 Apr 2013 2:01 a.m. PST

Yes, interested. Sounds perfect for 7TV.

Eclipsing Binaries27 Apr 2013 2:16 a.m. PST

Yes. I would take some of those. 15mm spies, super agents and possibly pulp super-hero type figures?

Etranger27 Apr 2013 2:25 a.m. PST

Don't forget a dashing chap in blazer and straw boater and a 'Rover' or two.

Spendlove27 Apr 2013 2:36 a.m. PST

WWII weird war super spies in 15mm always welcome!

Fatman27 Apr 2013 5:17 a.m. PST

Mot definite yes please!

Fatman

Redroom27 Apr 2013 6:34 a.m. PST

sounds really cool, make a few of the cars soviet or eastern block in design.

War Monkey27 Apr 2013 7:12 a.m. PST

"I Spy" and "Get Smart" Yes a shoe phone!and you have to have an agent 99 :), "Honey West" and "Mission Impossible", "Dick Maloy" something different "It Takes a Thief" just some of the shows I can remember from being a kid that we watched, ok maybe something more modern "Archer". Or something a little off the track "Wild Wild West" ok there's my two cents

ComradeCommissar27 Apr 2013 7:12 a.m. PST

Sounds fantastic. I would especially be interested in 15mm civilian cars. I feel Hot Wheels Nd Matchbox are too big for 15mm.

khurasanminiatures27 Apr 2013 7:24 a.m. PST

Yes, they're much too big.

Lion in the Stars27 Apr 2013 7:48 a.m. PST

I'd buy a set. I do have one question/request. In addition to the superspy, I'd like his American counterpart, the counter-assassin codenamed 'Eric'.

republic of tolworth27 Apr 2013 8:17 a.m. PST

Would be great to see some more in the Planet 15 range. Lots of weird stuff, but needs more Drs and assistance and other such heros. Some good villans too.

I forgot about UFO/SHADOW, that would be cool as well. I've got swarms of Greys that need swatting!

Scorpio27 Apr 2013 8:36 a.m. PST

I would sign on for this idea.

(Major Disaster)27 Apr 2013 8:42 a.m. PST

Only if these 2 are rendered in 15mm -

"throw me a frikken bone."

Dragon Gunner27 Apr 2013 9:26 a.m. PST

I would be interested could use them for scifi scenarios. The boiler suit minions interest me the most. If you make minions please make them with a variety of weapons (i.e. smg, pistol, shotgun, rifle, flamethrower, bazooka). A variety of head gear for the minions would be nice so I can have security forces and hastily armed workers. Ninjas with guns and katanas would be cool for the "You Only Live Twice" crater base battle. If I game the period it will depend on how much the range has to offer.

Mako1127 Apr 2013 1:07 p.m. PST

UFO and SHADO for me too…..

Steve Dean27 Apr 2013 1:30 p.m. PST

Yes please.

OctaChaz27 Apr 2013 2:41 p.m. PST

Speaking of UFO and SHADO, if there was any chance of some Captain Scarlet/Joe 90/Thunderbirds inspired figures, I'd be very interested!

Barks127 Apr 2013 3:42 p.m. PST

Did anyone mention an international man of mystery?

Also, ISIS.

The Bebop27 Apr 2013 3:45 p.m. PST

Bruce Lee and Kareem Abdul Jabar from Game of Death.

WarrenAbox27 Apr 2013 4:50 p.m. PST

Yeah, this is an area of 15mm that is currently underserved. I'd love to pick up something like that.

deflatermouse27 Apr 2013 5:53 p.m. PST

To use with the boiler suit minions and Ninjas I was also thinking this guy.

picture

Maybe need a figure in a Tux strapped to a table?
Then your soda vending machine can be a very important plot item

By the way, what's your least favorite country? Italy or France?

khurasanminiatures27 Apr 2013 8:30 p.m. PST

Then your soda vending machine can be a very important plot item

I actually make those:

picture

TheRatGod27 Apr 2013 8:47 p.m. PST

make some of them based off the heroes, and villains and henchmen(yellow jumpsuit minions) from the pc game Evil Genius. please.

deflatermouse28 Apr 2013 3:57 a.m. PST

Been thiking about this all day. (Sad, I know).
would you also be thinking armed scuba divers? For battles above and/or below water? Would need enough for a battle.

TMP link

Also Space suited astronaughts armed ? Maybe one seated/reclined skeleton in a spacesuit?

"Not-Soviets" in winter gear? Greatcoats, furry hats Ak-47s.
I'd be able to use my AK-47 African stuff for "away" location shoots in the Carib or Africa (dictors et al) but need cold weather baddies.
cars maybe in resin.

republic of tolworth28 Apr 2013 4:25 a.m. PST

I'm keen to see scuba divers as well.

No it's not sad to be thinking over this one. I've been spending sunday morning basing and plotting my 15mm 7TV stuff for hours.

Inner Sanctum28 Apr 2013 4:31 a.m. PST

A good linkage between yor small Cthulu range to some of the more modern, as his formal kit can range over several decades from then to who-knows?

Obviously ideal for mad scientists, cultists, giant monsters, heroes frozen in ice. Sharks with lasers already, as stated.

We were already promised young ladies in 50's bikini's running away!

I'd also plug for a few scientists, eccentrics and villains in a range of outfits. Not sure WHO you'd get to sculpt them, though.

captainquirk28 Apr 2013 5:16 a.m. PST

I'd also love to see UFO/Captain Scarlet inspired ranges. In fact, pretty much anything along the 7TV style but in 15mm would be amazing and definitely go into my shopping basket.

Old Jarhead28 Apr 2013 8:00 a.m. PST

Oh Yeah!!!!!

John Steed and Emma Peel

daddyslittlemen28 Apr 2013 9:40 a.m. PST

I probably wouldn't game this genre, but I'd find some of the packs useful for other things. I think a nice addition to the range would also be some late 60's and 70's era Police Detectives, both British and American. "The Sweeney", "Bullitt", "Starsky and Hutch"

Lysander28 Apr 2013 11:49 a.m. PST

No 60s superspy range would be complete without Patrick McGoohan("Danger Man/Secret Agent"…and "The Prisoner") and Michael Caine's Harry Palmer.

Mako1128 Apr 2013 12:02 p.m. PST

Definitely armed and unarmed scuba divers (scuba tanks and rebreathers), as well as free divers (without tanks).

Diver propulsion vehicles, minisubs, and several to carry nuke bombs too (wish the Goblintooth minis were still available – resurrecting them, if anyone has the ability to contact the owner for the masters and molds of these might be the best way to go, quickly, assuming they are still viable). They had lots of different packs, and diver vehicles, apparently.

I've only seen a few diver packs, but they were quite nice.

Bikini clad women are a must, for the 007 and Flint movies (In Like Flint, and Our Man Flint), plus others.

A Naomi figure, if you please, in a bikini, for a boat driver.

Some astronauts in armed, manned maneuvering units would be nice too, instead of just floating in space (GZG does some free floating guys). We need those for Moonraker, and some of the other space movies.

Definitely some Live and Let Die figs, high-speed boats for the waterway chases, poh-leese, etc. Can't recall the sheriff's name – perhaps W.T. Buford, and/or something like that. He was a classic, as was his "cousin". Too funny.

Mako1128 Apr 2013 1:02 p.m. PST

Here's a good, real-world mystery, if you are looking for interesting scenarios for your divers, during the Cold War:

link

Sadly, the 30 and 50 year report releases didn't provide the details of his death, and I doubt I'll live to see the official 100 year old report release, which is due to out in 2057 (far beyond the normal, 30 year secret release period).

The British do take their secrets seriously, don't they?

Buster was the real life inspiration for Ian Fleming's 007, and the rest is history.

Here are a few more takes on the story:

If you are wondering about modern, underwater armament, divers aren't just restricted to spearguns, bangsticks, and knives any longer.

They also have underwater pistols and assault rifles too, for use against enemies, and presumably sharks as well:

Apparently, the AR-15/M-16 can be fired underwater (don't try this at home), but the range of the bullet is only 4 feet, before it loses its power.

It appears flechette darts (like in the SciFi RPG Traveller), and/or rocket propelled bullets are the way to go, for underwater projectiles.
