Has anyone written a good scenario book with historical skirmish (and maybe large skirmish) scenarios for this period? I have Steel Bonnets, which is an interesting book, but it doesn't have much in it for the gamer.

The Sir Robert Carey books by P.F. Chisholm are great reads and have small encounters in them which are gameable – and there's a new one coming out soon!

Very amusing grin
You could try some historical novels set in Reiver territory such as Patricia Finney Chisholm's 'Sir Robert Carey' series, 1st book is "A Famine of Horses"
Dorothy Dunnett's "A Game of Kings"
Fraser's "The Candlemass Road" or "The Reavers"
<beaten to it, one has to be quick in this game>

As a heads up, this post made me check out Amazon. Just downloaded the kindle version of a famine of horses free of charge…

just base a few games around livestock raids, and the follow up retribution, the counter retribution.

Our family and the Kennedys were still doing tit for tat until the 1980s………..

George MacDonald Fraser's 'Steel Bonnets' si still the best history for this period and full of flavour and scenario ideas.

Three Hills a Kindle book, by Mark Montgomery (The Borderer Chronicles), has a few skirmish scenes. Starts with the battle of Solway Moss (could try a replay where the Scots actually have a better time of it!)… and an ambush too is playable (I've done so)
