Continued from this thread-

I've got a bunch of Paranoia signs/logos/slogans (from the RPG) that I'll be using for stores and things (it's a somewhat cheesy scifi setting). Next time, that is. I'll use it first as an industrial station with no second story (because there's less work involved and I only got it two days ago).

I've printed out some paper textures that I intend to glue over the existing cardboard – or onto newly cut cardboard. you can find the PDFs here:
link

I'll post pics after it's done to show how it goes.

Current conversion ideas are-
*Turn the board over – the holes for the placement of the plastic inserts should be the same for either side, and it means there's less to cover up of the original board
*Spray paint the board and the plastic inserts silver.
*Replace the 2 windows, 4 fountains, 2 elevator and 4 entrance carboard inserts with new inserts with new textures
*Remove the second story and cap the plastic shops with cardboard.
*Remove shopfronts
*Glue new square grid on the board.

When I change it to a commercial space station, I'll make new shopfront inserts and add signage and a retextured second story (hopefully I can just turn that carboard upside down and glue bits to it).

I have seen this same toy which used to also belong to a shopping mail board game converted into a Battletech Solaris VII arena several years ago that looked really good when it was completed, the gamer who built it added rows of seats, spot lights, bill board signs and loads of fine detail that just brought this whole toy to another level…

Sound like your onto a good start, can't wait to see how it turns out, checked out the pdf and they look good to me, thanks keep us in the loop.

Avamango – if you find some images, or links – I'd really like to see what they did.

The subject line alone wins. I approve and/or endorse this project. :)

I've never seen the toy. I'm glad to say.

Our hobby is often criticised by outsiders from a moral stand point (games about killing, death and so on).

I have rarely seen anything as morally bankrupting as a Hannah Montana shopping mall game aimed at (I assume) little girls.

I'm suffering from a severe head/sinus thing at the moment so it is always possible I'm just not thinking straight but I really think that's awful.

It's every gamer's duty to buy as many of these things as they can and turn them into scenery – or simply to destroy them – just to protect youngsters!

Seriously, though: nice idea.

Hmm…. NO! I do NOT need another project! Bad gamer! BAD!

ordinarybass26 Apr 2013 10:47 a.m. PST

Interesting. That's the exact gameboard (with color changes" as the original "Mall maddness" (a game from a while ago…) I saw a copy at a resale shop and didn't pick it up, and your post is making me regret that decision. I could have chopped it up into several nice 10mm buildings!

The image I posted is the "before" image folk! I've not yet converted it :)

Actually, I'm about half way through currently. Ran out of spray paint :(

Oh and John T. – 100% agreement. Wargames (or in my case a space opera pulp boardgame) are fictional and don't help re-inforce sexist stereotypes in behaviour. Not unless all your alien 15mm scifi troops are male, anyway…
That being said, a boardgame aimed at children is far more likely to be influential than any game played by adults.

Keep in mind the original was sold in 1988. That's 25 years of indoctrination.

I have one that I will sell cheap if anyone is interested.

Shopping or killing … it's all about body count … evil grin

Curufea09 May 2013 4:23 a.m. PST

I didn't like the way the board turned out, so I used some "Litko 15mm Scale Space Corridor – Mini Corridor, 5x5, 4 Door Room". Here's the after version-
