They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest We Forget |

Great stuff Korsun, she will remember that forever. I found the Villers Bretonneux grave-site in 2001 after having walked through the Canadian section of the Somme just up the road. I was completely unprepared as to how much it would move me (which always sounds like a cliche, I know). |

@Plutarch 64 – Yes, her school and two others from Australia will be there. So far her band has played at the Menin Gate, Arc D'Triomphe, Madeleine Cathedral and a couple of others and also been to Fromelles. The thing is she had some understanding of the significance but this has really brought it home to all of them I think. She has a great-great uncle buried near Abbeville, killed on the Somme in 1916. To have seen the memorials, experienced and participated in the various ceremonies will be a priceless and moving memory. All those young people will bring that back and pass it on. To me the most moving photo on the school blog was a young girl in the band who played the last post over the grave of a great-great uncle. |

Particular poignancy for many this year and next with the draw down in Afghanistan
Yet another page in the annals of the Australian Soldier – a tale of a difficult job in tough terrain, performed skillfully, valiantly and cheerfully, but at a terrible price for some who made the ultimate sacrifice for their mates, and many who have come home physically or mentally injured. 'Keep On, Digger!'

The family and I attended the Eden 5:30 am dawn service, magnificent facing a bay as the sun came up, even a real bugler, a great turnout for a small town. Not marching this year first time in 13 years in the Goulburn City march, not leading Goulburn Pipes and Drums in the Parade, and not at Taralga service, left my medals at home too, so it feels a little unusual. Lest we forget |

Steve W – try the ABC website. Apparently they're streaming the marches etc & have lifted the regional blocking for the day

I was at a bank in Toronto this morning and the girl next to me was getting some Aussie dollars. To her surprise I asked her if she had done anything special for ANZAC Day yesterday but unfortunately she had not although she used to back home. Unfortunately, I forgot to tell her that there's a cenotaph ceremony held in Toronto too that she could have gone to. I'll try to remember the next time and I hope you all had a thoughtful day. |

Paul Y. Small world! I grew up in Belmont WA and my daughter currently lives there also! That wouldn't have been during the 70s, would it? I grew up in Redcliffe – went to St Maria Goretti's Primary School and played cricket at Belmay. |
