Having already accumulated a lot of scenery in 10mm for use with the Pendraken US and VC figures for Vietnam, I am thinking of widening my horizons to include the earlier French wars.

After all, the Pendraken packs are very reaonably priced and I quite fancy the different flavour of the French era. Funnily enough, I feel I now have more interest in the French era than the US involvement, perhaps because of the lower level of technology involved on the part of the French.

For uniforms, is the most accessible source the Osprey Indochima War?

For the history, the seminal works appear to be Street without Joy and Hell in a Small Place. Any other suggestions for books suitable to game large scale actions more suitable for 10mm?

Finally, where do I go for French vehicles in 10mm? I presume a lot of WWII US jeeps and half-tracks can be used and Pendraken also make a LVT4 Buffalo. I see a lot of mention of the M24 Chafee: is any model of this available?

Thanks,

Alan

Minifigs make a very nice Chaffed.

I did notice the Minifigs Chafee: would it fit in OK with the 10mm Pendraken figures and vehicles?

I think it would look fine

I would recommend "The Last Valley" by Martin Windrow. Lots of action in and around Dien Bien Phu. Quite a read though but lots of useful small action scenarios.

Two companies to check out with a wide range of models for the period are Pithead Miniatures, who produce a great little Weasel M29 in 10 mm for your amphib units as well as wide range of WW2 US and British Kit.

At the top end of the market you might also want to check out Wargames South who produce some very high qualiy models in 1/144 which should be suitable for 1/150 10mm scale.(The models are pricey but the quality stands for itself, these are "AB" of the 10mm scene)

I'll be using both as well as models form Pendraken. Picked up the two army packs on the day at Salute and can vouch that they are truly superb sculpts.

Am using F-Toys on bay for model aircraft in 1/144.

Please post up shots as the work progresses alan, look forward to seeing how you go with this.

Cheers

There's a Chaffee in 10mm by Magister Militum…better scale wise than the Minifigs version.

I have lots of French books and a small mountain of Pendraken figures for Indochina…great project if i ever get round to it!

For uniforms I suggest you take a look here:

No need to be good at French!

Chafee coming soon from Pendraken I believe, it has been a very popular request on their forum.

Anybody gaming Indochina 10mm in the London area?

Johny Boy26 Apr 2013 11:56 p.m. PST

Guess not then :-(….. Boggler, i'm looking in awe at the level of detail on the Wargames South 1/144 models, how much bigger are they than 1/200 models such as Magister Militum. Unfortunately WS have a mini 10 pound chargewhich makes getting hold of a sample a pricey option.
