About half a year ago (when it seemed that battlefront was driving down its Vietnam series) my FLGS decided to get rid of all their vietnam stuff -40% sale, I couldnt resist and I bought M48s, M113s and a single UH-1B.
I wasnt quite sure what I would do with them, but I ended up building west-german territorial armys "hevy jäger" unit c1986. I allready had soviet VDV for the same era and and IMO they matched up nicely. VDV lacked all the heavy assets, territorials gear was often old or otherwise less full-frontal assault capable.
I based the conversion to Revells 1:72 kit and some limited photo references. ATM Im working with the M113Gs, and I must admit, that they are not among best battlefront kits ever produced (well – neither was this!)..
But yeah, conversion:
Barrel is brass-piping with layers of masking tape used to create thermal sleeve, whole thing was hardened using clear epoxy resin. The commanders cupola is propably the weakest link, Im not too happy with it – MG3 is actually BFs spare MG-42 with styrene "ammo box". I also added extra stowage box in middle of the rack behind the turret, and also the laser rangefinder above the gun. I also removed some stuff from the turret that was in BFs A3, but wasnt in A2.
