Hi everyone,

The coming month I will be visiting the isle of Kos, Greece and I was wondering if anyone knows if there are interesting sites to visit on the island. Now most of my holiday will probably be spent on the beach or near a pool in the sun but I would love to see some historical sites.

Most of the information on the internet seems to be about the archeological digs going on there on the island but since my main interest is world war II I was wondering if there are any museums or sites worth visiting which cover the battle of Kos. I have to admit that I had never heard about the battle of Kos before I read about in on Wikipedia but it seems like it was quite an intense fight between the Germans and the British there.

So any pointers what to see and where to go?

P.S. Is there an active gaming community or gaming store on the isle of Kos? Or would that be asking for too much;) ?

Many thanks in advance,

Friendlyfire

No idea what it's like on the ground, but I have just started reading "Churchill's Folly" on the Dodecanese battles, so it migth be worth taking a copy of that along. The only other thing I've read on the Dodecanese is the chapter in "Five Ventures" by Christopher Buckley. There doesn't seem to be a vast amount in print about it, probably out of sheer embarrassment for English-language works.

All the best,

John.

Hi all,

Thanks for all the info! I have found some information on the medieval castles those mentioned by Sabouro and they look worth visiting!

As I read more on the whole Dodecanese campaign I get the impression that it was quite a painful defeat for the British at that point in the war. I can imagine that most historians skipped the whole thing and focused on other grander campaigns.

I kind of guessed there wouldn't be a gaming store or active gaming community but since TMP'ers seem to be found all over the world I thought I try my luck;)

But many thanks again for all the info and ideas!
