I got a shiny new copy of dux bellorum, but no "era appropriate" minis. I game in 6mm, but I can do any scale. I want Saxons and Romano Celts. Ie your classic Arthur types. Scale? I can paint anything. Although 28mm makes me want to die. Manufacturer? Price is the limiting factor here. School and other matters are eating my funds right now. Let me know. Thanks. |

Here is what Splintered Light Miniatures has in 15mm. link Just one option of scale and company, I know, but my personal favorite. |

Rod sculpted them, and they won an award for best historical line at Origins a few years ago. |

What I have are 15mm Outpost figures. Once painted, quite nice.
They do a good moustache!
For Dux Bellorum 10mm may also be worthy of consideration. Quite a few manufacturers out there and that mass effect is quite impressive. Not gone that way myself, but often comes to mind. |

This blog post of mine might be helpful: link I've not commented on the cost of the different lines, however. And this one is a useful stepping off point for finding out more about Dux Bellorum armies, troop types, etc: link I hope they help! |

ScannableGoose, really like your blog. Not seen may H&R photos before, they look very good. Also the Irregular stuff is ok when you look at the cost. Good stuff! |

You might consider 10mm by Pendraken (mentioned on Danmer's blog). Some nice work on show here: link Regards, TC. |

As ScannableGoose said – I'd stick with 6mm. Doug |

The SL figures are great. I mixed in a few Outpost command and monks with mine and they look good together. |

I have many of the SL 15mm that I use for DB.I have mine individually mounted on washers to give me the greatest flexibility for games. For DB,I mount 4 figues on a 40x40 sabot with magnets. It works quite well. For my LP's,I had a bunch of Late Roman and round AngloSaxon shields,I painted up 10 each. For the unit status markers,I used a paper punch to make dozens of little round shields, put a small dop of white glue in the middle as a boss, painted them and mounted them on 20mm round bases in multiples of 1's,2's and 3's,and just place them behind the appropriate stand to show their status. Just FYI,the SL Grendal figure makes a great Saxon berzerker! |

I second Pendraken 10mm stuff. Might be able to complement their range with Magister Militum 10mm. |

I cannot find any 6mm romano-british/ arthurians Pendraken stuff looks great. so does magister militum. SL stuff looks good as well
..!!!! I honestly will just have to buy samples of each scale. And each manufacturer. See what I like the best. |

I've gone for both 28 mm ( various manufacturers including Gripping Beast, Black Hat, Foundry) and 10 mm link Well really 12 mm. I suppose, but I think they are nice figures. I have based the 12 mm figures to 40 mm frontage, so can use for DBA if the mood takes me, or Warmaster or Impetus on sabot bases. I think cost is reasonable, especially if you buy enough to get the "6 for 5" deal. 28 mm are based on 20 mm round bases- flexible for Saga, WAB etc. For Dux Bellorum, we agreed to use 100mm frontage bases for 28 mm |

The saxons from magister militum are rather smaller than their other ranges; I've got a subroman british army (yet unpainted) & the saxons are tiny compared to the late roman part of the force. Nice figures though

The Splintered Lights figures look very nice, but they are on the expensive side for 15mm. In fact they are nearly double the price of many other 15mm figures, at $8 USD for 12 (compared to say Old Glory at $12 USD for 32). I think 15mm is the best choice if price is your main concern, as you can play the larger size battles with rules like Dux Bellorum, but you could also play skirmish games like Saga. |

Here's a few pics of ours (some of them were linked above already):
With you being in the US, you can take the VAT off the prices, so it would be £3.33 GBP for a pack of 30 foot / 15 cavalry. Give me a shout if I can help with anything. |

Hat and other 1/72 plastics would a cheap option. Late Romans for the British and Goth/Saxon figures for the foreign swine. link |

aapch45, I also looked around for 6mm Romano-Brits/early Saxons for Dux Bellorum. I didn't find dedicated ranges, but Baccus 6mm has a lot of late romans that can be used for most of the troop types you'd need. link No specific early saxons either, but IMO it wouldn't be too difficult to put together a reasonable aproximation using the Baccus6mm Goths, plus maybe some of their Vikings/Late Saxons with circular shields. I know the Viks aren't quite right, but in 6mm, with the right paint, I expect they would pass! Another option is Irregular Miniatures. They have late romans and a variety of their opponents in their 6mm "Imperial Rome and her Enemies" range, including Picts. They even do Army packs for 12 Pounds. Finally, Heroics and Ros have 6mm ancients and dark ages figs buried in their catalogue. PDF link You could probably put together all the troop types you need. I can't say what the Irregular or Heroics figs are like, I have't seen those ranges in person. I have seen Baccus figs in person and they are quite amazing! |
