Working on a Gettysburg game has anyone ever mapped out troops arrival? More on day 1 when troops arrived somewhat piecemeal. I'm going to try to figure it out but wondered if anyone else has. |

Any descent Gettysburg board game should have arrival times. I fondly remember the Avalon-Hill Gettysburg and its table of arrival times. That, of course, was limited to infantry divisions, artillery battalions and cavalry (?)brigades. Nothing in greater detail. |

Of course, it also depends on the size of your table and when you consider a unit 'arrived'. Union troops could arrive in the vicinity of Cemetery Hill nearly an hour before they would arrive at the 11th Corps' position north of the town. |

The Osprey Gettysburg books are good for this. Also the Maps of Gettysburg by Gottfried is excellent, too. And then there's the Gettysburg Companion by Adkin. |

That, of course, was limited to infantry divisions, artillery battalions and cavalry (?)brigades. Nothing in greater detail. NEVER use a board game. I remember the old SPI game Terrible Swift Sword which had an order of arrival and location that directly contradicted Abner Doubleday's own written account of where and when his division arrived on the field. I would tend to go with the man that actually commanded the unit over a board game. Best source I can recommend is Bradley M. Gottfred's "Brigades at Gettysburg" and his companion book "Maps of Gettysburg" for a very accurate time line of the entire battle. Kim |

If you can get "The Gettysburg Companion" I would recommend it. |

The Official Records are online, though every gamer interested in the ACW period ought to have a copy of them on CD. They are available for around $20 USD or less through multiple sources. A bit of time reading through the volume on Gettysburg will give you pretty much all of the AAR's and those will include a LOT of interesting details about the march to, arrival times, deployment areas, engagements, casualties, etc. Some even include ammunition expenditure reports, etc. V/R |

The original Fire & Fury game has Gettysburg scenarios, OOB's and unit arrival times at the end of the rule book. |

I picked up The Maps of Gettysburg, which has each regiment's arrival and where they were when they got there. I had to order it from abebooks.com as Amazon did not have it and Barnes and Noble only had the e-version. The other two books (Maps of Bull Run and The Maps of Antietam) are also worth getting, but they are available in hardback from the usual sources. Arrival times are there, though day one is broken up into section around the battlefield to cover all the action. I have learned quite a bit about Day 1 I had no idea happened. |

We're intending to use the F&F scheduling
is anyone aware of any serious errors? |
