Irrational Number Line Games' Idea of the Week takes a little walk through our Temple of the Squid, a nice little multi-purpose piece. Good for ancients (the layout is modeled off Agean island "Turkish baths" I have visited), pulp, horror, and even modern and sci-fi.
No WIPs for this one, just a bit of inspiration. Besides, once you know how it's made, you really don't need WIPs… |

Well, not really. If you limit yourself to just a few basic shapes and/or colors(a couple of different sized 1x or 2x bricks, 1x1 tile, 2x2 tile, arches and etc.), you can buy them easily in bulk. (I didn't even mention things like making some of the details out of lego too..such as tables, chairs, wall sconces, fireplces, and even a couple of 'scale' creatures are available such as bats, scorpions, cats, snakes, monkey, parrot, and chimp to name a few.) Not only can you keep building and rebuilding, but if you build them correctly on baseplates, they can become modular as well. One of those places to buy in bulk is here: bricklink.com You can also buy directly from the LEGO 'pick a brick' section, but it is generally a little bit more expensive, but quantities are unlimited. link David G.

It could be expensive. I didn't mention it on the site, but the piece is 15"x15"x4". I shudder to think what that size piece of "traditional" terrain wouls cost. I get bulk bricks at the Lego store (mostly 'coz I like shopping there). That piece woul run about $80 USD of bricks. |

LEGO can be a great medium for gaming in my experience…
link I'm very familiar with Bricklink, PaB and PaB online, but even at the best prices, $80 USD, is still pretty pricey. Still it's a nice looking piece. Back when I used to buy bulk LEGO, I would just give away all the Megablocks and other off-brand bricks. I saved a few interesting shapes for wargames terrain greebling, but obviously I should have turned them all into terrain! |

Eighty bucks was a retail LEGO store price. Garage saleing or friends with kids are also a good source of tons of blocks (apparently, some people think it is possible to grow out of playing with LEGO … yeah … I know!). Even retail, that's just over 1.5 square feet of sturdy, heavy terrain for under $100. USD |
