I am in ABQ NM, and finding 2mm MDF seems to be near impossible. Home Depot had some on the web page, but when I tried to order was store only, and none of the store here will order it. Anyone have a supplier for it? Talking with Alilbaba atm shipping will equal the MDF but atm seems the only way. For the Laser Board, I can find no one except a few folks selling single sheets, if anyone knows someone selling reams or cases please let me know. Lee |

What you're looking for at Home Depot, Lowes, and Menards will be called 1/8" Hardboard (it's the exact same thing as 2mm MDF). They will sell it in 2'x4', 4'x4', and 4'x8' sheets. And super cheap. Not sure what Laser Board is

Hard Board I have used and it is MDF but the finish is as it says Hard, much harder than MDF i have gotten buildings made from. The finish makes me have to run the laser at 10% Power while other MDFs I have gotten I can cut well at 50%. Also it is 1/8" about 3mm would really like 2mm if possible. Many places in England to buy, Canada as well, but not it seems in the US. I am using the 1/8 hard back atm, but really would like the other stuff, the MDF that works well is light in color and the finish is not as slick as the hard back. Thanks for the answer but not what I am looking for. Lee |

Laser Board, is like a chip board but thinner and much stiffer. It is I think resin and paper pulp, I have seen it called Craft Paper, and it is said used in Cabinet making, though no maker I have found knows it. Electronics but again I can not seems to find anyone who knows it. So far my only supply is single sheet, and that is a bit rough. I use it for adding details and depth to laser cut buildings, think of it as the brass etching for laser cut items. In fact it can replace many brass add on parts for all models. But finding a real supplier has been insanely difficult. Mainly stemming from the fact I can not find exactly what it is. The backing of a wood veneer is the close, but no wood just a nice smooth paper that takes stain, paint, and weathering very well. The laser cuts it easily and can produce amazing detail. Thanks for the help all. Lee |

Talk to the commercial department in Lowes. We get 3mm MDF from them. They can get 2mm I think. (1/10") They also cut it down for us. Takes a bit to get in as it is special ordered. |

Howdy Lfseeney: If we are thinking about the same stuff it is used as a paper backer on wood veneer, Formica, and the like. Northeastern Scale Lumber sells it in a 12x24 sheet. Comes in .010, .015, and .024 thickness. They sell it for $75.00 USD for a bundle of 25 sheets. However, if you want large quantities I located an industrial source for the stuff. Lenderink Technologies. They sell by the 49"x97" sheet, minimum dollar order $300.00 USD. If this is the stuff PM me and I can send you all the particulars and contact info. bittercreekmodels@silverstar(dot)com. Jeff Stone |

CorSecEng, Will ask, all I have found there is the Hardback Board. Thanks, Lee |

Hardboard is nasty. Don't put it in your laser :) It just turns to powdered ashes. Make sure you go during the weekday in the mornings. You need to talk to the guys who deal with the contractors. They can get anything. The flunkies on the weekends don't know much. They just help people pickup orders. |

LFSeeney -- did you ever end up finding a source that you liked? |
Lfseeney | 30 Jul 2013 11:07 p.m. PST |
Nope, they say they can not get it, so still looking. |

After a lot more searching, I'm finding 2mm MDF is a common thing at craft stores in the UK but not in the US. It's also a common item in picture shops in the UK because it's used as a backer board for pictures. In the US, we use cardboard or PVC board for that purpose. Net: Haven't found a US Supplier (other than Alibaba) and the one hope I had in Montreal fell through this morning. |

Yea, go to Lowes. HD's customer service sucks, in my experience. The people at Lowes are usually a lot more cooperative, and helpful. |

Still no joy in NM Going to see if a store in Texas can get it and drive ther. |

Striking out in MI - Montreal possibility turns out to have a 2mm MDF advertisement but no ability to fulfill orders for 2mm MDF <annoying> - Local Home Depot Customer Service – no possible vendors - Local Lowes Customer Service – no possible vendors - Local Full Service Lumberyard – doesn't have access to any hardboard or MDF like that Part of the trouble is getting the people I'm talking to to understand the difference between chipboard and MDF and Hardboard. I do think the 2mm MDF is something available at most UK hobby stores but not available in the US. Happy to be shown otherwise. |

560 sheets are on the way I am told, three are for me :) They order stuff and when the truck is full it ships. So maybe by Friday. These folks are getting it from El Paso TX. Not sure if made there or else where. Will post when I get my paws on it |

Lfseeney -- How did this turn out? Were you able to acquire the 2mm MDF? |
Lfseeney | 08 Oct 2013 7:21 p.m. PST |
Well got it 1/8 inch so closer to 3mm Had to take my saw with me as 97 x 49 inches is way to big for my jeep. But they let me set up my saw horses and extension cord and cut them down. Made the Landing Pad and started on Spaceship Interior. Three sheets 28 with tax I think it was. They get it from El Paso TX. Thanks for asking. |

Still amazing to me that the continent of the United States can't scare up something that's pretty common in the UK craft stores. |
