Can I use a Cavalry guidon for the HQ fro a divsional commnader? I figure seeing as usually some cavalry was sued as escort it would be ok to do this? |

No. You may not. Because I said so. C'mon, use some imagination. What do you know about the different Union generals, their backgrounds and personalities? What flag can you come up with for Hooker's Division, f'rinstance? |

If they didn't use a specific designating flag, they probably used a standard garrison flag. A garrison flag is basically a longer US national flag. Since the regimental national flags were 6 feet by 6 feet, a garrison flag would essentially look like a modern day US flag. Just make sure it has the right number of stars. You wouldn't be wrong with a garrison flag. |

Hooker's Division: Black flag with white, long eared rabbit head. Custer's Division: Blue flag with white crossed arrows. Butler's Division: Blue flag with silver crossed spoons. |

If you are simply wanting to differenciate the Division commmander from the brigade generals, just put more men on the stand. But putting a company based cavalry flag to represent the division is not the way to go. |
