I wonder if any of the slightly older British members can help me out.

I remeber seeing a play on TV in the late 70's (I think it was BBC2) starring Bob Hoskins as a French Poilou during the Battle of France.

The guy who was with him in "On The Move" played his buddy.

It was a well conceived piece because they had the actors speak in their normal accents and just 'be' the French soldiers, rather than a lot of ridiculous Clouseau style "Zut alors! Ze Boches 'ave crossed ze Meuse!!" dialogue.

If anyone can confirm that this programme actually aired and better still the title you will make this ex-pat in Canada very happy and confirm that I haven't completely lost my mind…..!

By the way, searches of Google and Imdb have proved fruitless….

Is it possibly the BBC2 adaption of "Roads to Freedom" by Jean-Paul Sartre which was 13 episodes long and covers the period from 1938 to 1940 in Paris and France ?

Could be I suppose….I'll check that out. Thanks!

Nope! Not "Roads to Freedom" – the programme I remember was late 1970's…..

Donald Gee : also appeared in Doctor Who, Van Der Valk, Z-Cars, Born and Bred, Silver Sword, Doctors, The Avengers….Radagast the brown (BBC Radio adaptation!)….

quite a lot – but only The Silver Sword is a WWII drama but IIRC is set in Poland.

Hmm….
