So Phase 1 of my 1814 Montmirail project is off to a great start with the arrival from MMPS of my French Old Guard, Ligne, Legere, Hussars and part of the Garde du'Honour.
I'll try an upload of just a few photos below from Flickr. First try, hope it works. The photos really don't give the figs true justice, particularly since there are over 200 figs in all, so I'll post more and better shots when I have them based.
This is my first experience with MMPS. I thought it definitely worth a shot since I wanted to use a lot of plastic Perrys and the ready-made battalions seemed to fit the OOB I was looking at. Also the idea of not having to buy, order and then ship the figs over there, not having to assemble the plastics, and not having to provide detailed painting instructions seemed definitely a plus. Work and all that hassle makes my projects usually take years. So I thought I'd give it a shot when MMPS opened back up for business after their move.
Can't express how pleased I am. Painting quality is A+ and Fons at MMPS was incredibly helpful in making sure I got what I wanted. Particular helpful was Fons' knowledge of Napoleonic uniforms and organization and he steered me away from a few mistakes. And although MMPS sticks to 24 man battalions, Fons was able to accommodate a few special requests.
As a bum with almost no time and NO talent for painting, I have been using painting services for at least 8 years, and this is the best deal I've ever seen in terms of turn around time (weeks not months), pricing (as competitive as I've seen even including the shipping), quality and customer service (Fons was extremely tolerant of all my questions and order changes). With MMPS the language barrier is totally gone, as is the need for detailed painting instruction. The figs look exactly like what he posts on his website. Lots of variation and personality.
I have used Fernando for years, have always been pleased with them, and will continue to use them for painting that MMPS does not offer. They have an order of 40mm Dark Ages and some Napoleonic lead of mine right now, so I will continue to be a loyal Fernando customer. However, I will add using MMPS for anything they are willing and able to do that fits my projects. Since MMPS specializes in ready-made units in mainly plastics, they don't offer some specific things I need, including most things in lead. But for anything they will accept as a order, I can't recommend them highly enough.
So here's just a bit of what I just got back. At this point, I have all of Ricard's 8e Division complete (Perry plastics) except a few command I will add in Perry lead, 4Bns of Grenadiers a Pied (Victrix), 4Bns of Chasseurs a Pied (Victrix), 10e Hussars and 4e Garde du Honnour all in hand. I'm advised that my full OOB of Russian foot and the remainder of the Garde du Honnour should be shipping very soon. Next in the painting queue are 4 Bns of Prussian Grenadiers and 3Bns of Prussian Line. Everything will be around 1:30 scale. My intention is to try and get MMPS to do my Prussian Landwehr in Warlord plastic figs and maybe the Middle Guard Division partially in Victrix. Haven't quite figured out what I want to do in terms of Perrys lead vs Victrix.
As you can tell I'm pretty psych'd about this. Best purchase I've made in a long time, and that includes the new kitchen remodel this project will cost me with the wife! 26 years of marriage means a little give and take. I just don't understand why her side of making us "even" always has an extra 0 on the price.
