[/URL] This range was available only briefly between 1968 and around 1972, and it has been impossible to track downa list and to find and identify the figures with any confidence. A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to find a lot of around 190 figures, unsold at a traditional auction, which were Bill Lamming's display figures for use at shows etc. Some more on these figures at Vintage Wargaming: link and figure-by-figure posts with photographs at the Old Metal Detector here: link Sorry I haven't got the hang of putting photos direct onto the post but I thought it would be better to have some visible on the post. If anyone can tell me how to take the text bits off I will do that. |

How splendid those little soldiers are! I'm familiar with Lamming's later chunky Ancients range (have some splendid Islamic cavalry in my collection
)
but I think I like those smaller, earlier figures better ! Phil |

Those are very nice. Congratulations on your find. |

Of course, the real question is, can these find their way back into production? They look nice, and amongst those of us of a certain age would find a ready market I imagine (I would buy some). So what do you think – possible? Impossible? |

Marvelous-looking figures! What "size" are they? GdeP |

Marc – possibly possible – I am looking into it. GdeP – I would say they are 20mm. Some are larger than the others – e.g. the charging Prussian Grenadiers – which is appropriate. |

Lucky yes but hard work and quite a lot of risk too – I have been looking for figures from this range for around ten years, picked up a few bits and pieces a few months ago, and got a tip about the Bill Lamming items at the auction from DC over at Unfashionably Shiny link I couldn't get to or bid to the auction at short notice, so then I had to check with them after the sale to find the lot was unsold, and then agree to buy them there and then for the reserve price, sight unseen with no pictures and trusting the provenance, then travelling 100 miles or so each way back to pick them up. Not cheap either (but good value). Sometimes we need to make our own luck. But I am so pleased to have got them. Sometime I should post some pictures of Peter Gilder's Hinton Hunt French Napoleonic cavalry – the Guard Lancers in the background for Vintage Wargaming are from this collection. |

Links are blocked at work but will check them later. I love it when old ranges are rediscovered. Many fond memories of Lamming miniatures. A bunch of Bill's Romans used to fill in for fantasy infantry (gaudily painted red chaos star on red shield) in the 70s for me. |
