Hi,

I am looking to move up a scale in WWII gaming. What metals are a good match for the Plastic Soldier Co 1/72 plastic infantry. How is Fantassin in comparison, any other suggestions.

Thanks,

John

I don't know but you'll find it hard to beat AB for quality. It's just such a shame their range is limited. I'd dearly love US Airborne. I suspect all metals will be more bulky than plastics of the same height.

PiersBrand15 Apr 2013 11:58 a.m. PST

I use…

Wartime, AB, Elhiem, Battlefield/Blitz, SHQ, Grubby and others with my PSC stuff.

The PSC Germans match very well in proportions with AB.

…and as an aid…

PSC on left, AB on right;

Hods of fine plastic out there – save you a fortune…

I also think Kelly's Heroes ( Grubby) mixes well with PSC soldiers from what I have seen .

As an idea you could get the bulk of your forces with PSC and then from the cost savings use AB which are quite expensive for your "special" troops such as commanders , wire teams ( for Battlefront)etc. :)

Either way in 20mm you have a lot of choice .

Thank you all, yes the plan is to get the grunts in plastic and the extras in metal. AB do look very nice, but it does not seem they take paypal. Using CC for overseas transactions is always a problem. (I am in North America)

I am quite sure ( 100%) sure as I have checked that Milicast stock AB .They also take Paypal :)

If doing this way i would recommend that you E mail Milicast first and list your wants. They will then be able to issue you a customised Paypal Invoice . A friend of mine has done it this way when he wanted a mixture of vehicles, Millicast figures and AB figures. The postage for AB IIRC is treated differently.

Thank you very much, I did want to go with AB, so you have given me a source, much appreciated.

Just received my order of AB minis via Milicast last week. No problems at all.

PSC plastic minis will mix really well with Elhiem, TDQ and Battlefield/Blitz minis.

When it comes to vehicle crews, you can't go far wrong with AB or SHQ; the smaller sculpts will work well with pretty much any model.

Have yet to see Fantassin side-by-side with any of these other lines and would very much like to…

Have a look at ww20mm blog. There are some pictures and comments on Fantassin and other manufacturers.

Beaumap16 Apr 2013 12:33 p.m. PST

I use all the above, except Wartime which I have never seen (or heard of). Fantassin fit particularly well as a bridge between the 'real' 20mm like SHQ which are really 1/76 and the nominal 1/72 like AB, Elheim and PSC which are all (thankfully) smaller than the huge 24+mm Italeri and 26mm+ Valiant.

My British Airborne are AB and Fantassin (now Warmodelling), with Battlefield/Blitz gun teams. My other British are SHQ and AB, with some Kelly's gun teams.

Where do CP models fit into the size comparison.

Thanks,

John

gorgarrak17 Apr 2013 9:12 a.m. PST

CP's own range are a little shorter, but those sold under the TQD name by CP are fine to mix with Elhiem, I also mix Zvezda with TQD and Elhiem. I'd personaly aviod PSC Russians as they are a little on the tall and bulky side (massive heads) but PSC Brits, U.S. and German are fine

Personnaly i feel that PSC mix well with Fantisan fine.

Thomas Nissvik18 Apr 2013 10:52 p.m. PST

John, CP have some pics on their website that show how they match several other makers.

Actually, they are my figures and I should update the pics by including a PSC guy now that I have figures from them too. And I need to get some from AB as well.

historygamer25 Apr 2013 6:17 p.m. PST

How do the PSC models scale with these figures?

Thomas Nissvik29 Apr 2013 2:09 a.m. PST

Historygamer, I have a PSC and a Zvezda on the paint bench right now, I'll try to put them in a pic alongside some CP Models guys as soon as I can.

historygamer29 Apr 2013 2:15 p.m. PST

My figures are Combat (old Old Glory 20mm), FAA, SHQ, AB – so wondering how they scale with them.

Thomas Nissvik30 Apr 2013 3:33 a.m. PST

Ah, you just gave me an excuse to buy some AB figures. Nice one, historygamer!

historygamer01 May 2013 7:10 p.m. PST

Like anyone needs one. :-)

John de Terre Neuve10 May 2013 12:22 p.m. PST

Hi, It seems that Milicast and AB miniatures have gone off line. Milicast unresponsive email and AB call back in a month.

SHQ look like the same girth as PSC but are the a similar height. I bought some Britannia Miniatures and although nice they look like fat little grunts.

So how about SHQ and PSC.

Thanks again,

John

genew4910 May 2013 1:23 p.m. PST

Milicast and AB are working now.

John de Terre Neuve10 May 2013 1:28 p.m. PST

did you check as they are not working from my computer!

genew4910 May 2013 1:33 p.m. PST

Yes and I just pulled them up again for a second time since my post at 1:23 PST.

John de Terre Neuve10 May 2013 2:02 p.m. PST

The Milicast web site is working but when you click on shopping cart it says it is not available. When you hit the contact button same thing:

Sorry, the shop is inaccessible temporarily. Please try again later.

genew4910 May 2013 2:28 p.m. PST

You are correct I'm getting the same as you are.

John de Terre Neuve10 May 2013 5:46 p.m. PST

So how about shq in comparison to psc

Blacky75012 May 2013 6:43 p.m. PST

Tom from Milicast is away in the Canary Islands so probably not aware that the shopping cart is down but he's back this week according to the recent news page

mysteron13 May 2013 2:14 a.m. PST

IMO most models are intermixable to a degree. Painting and basing can blend most models in .I am quite happy using CP alongside Ceasar and AB with a few Plastic soldier, SHQ,Millicast and Kellys into the mix.

Thomas Nissvik13 May 2013 10:41 p.m. PST

Here is a pic of a few different makes compared to PSC as requested by the OP. These are CP Models, PSC, Pegasus, Zvezda, Caesar and SHQ.

picture

I have Fantassin figures too, but they are in storage.

An idea can be had from this picture, with CP Models, SHQ, Revell, Fantassin and Italeri.

John de Terre Neuve14 May 2013 11:16 a.m. PST

Thanks everyone, I get a sense that the SHQ models are smaller the the PSC models from the above photo.

CP might be a better match.

John
