Can anyone point me to a good online tutorial for making an easy and inexpensive flight stand? My 15mm helos sadly don't fly of their own accord. |

No tutorial but i use a washer and coat hanger (thin ones that are white painted). I use pliers to bend the wire in a circle to lay ontop of the washer and then in the middle i bend it up to go straight to the bottom of the flier. |

Cheap and easy to make. You can adjust the sizes of the washer to your aircraft and scale. link Terry |

I use upside down plastic champaign glasses. Cost about $1 USD at the party store. |

Hey Michael. Not the cheapest but this is what I use.
Litko flight stands and K&J magnets.
Hope this helps. Michael in Cloverdale |

This is a brilliant idea. Thanks for sharing. |

I saw a great helo flight stand in the Ambush Alley forums. Sadly, I lost track of the thread for pictures. This is for modern helos like Blackhawks, Pave Lows, and Chinooks. Take an AOL CD (or spacer/defective CD-rom), some florist's wire, and a whole lot of cotton or poly teddybear stuffing. Twist two or three strands (depends on how thick the wire is) of florist's wire to make a thick 'fast-rope'. Make 4 of them, and put a 90deg bend at the top. Your Helo will sit on the top of those bends. Keep the 'fast-ropes' as straight as you can for most of their length (10-12" looks really good), and make a small bend/coil at the bottom. Paint the wire fast-ropes a very dark brown or very dark green. Texture the CD as normal (paper over the hole, etc), then hotglue the 'fast ropes' to the base (clear hotglue is the best for this). Then paint the teddy bear stuffing the same color as your dusty base and glue the stuffing around the base as a 2-3" tall dust cloud. This works best for plastic models that don't have a lot of weight to them. |

D'oh! The 'fast-ropes' go inside the helo's cabin with the doors open. You might need to add a roof to give the fastropes something to support. |

Seriously consider using a magnet to attach the plane to the stand. I painted up and based 2 whole sci-fi fleets, and glued them in, and now I wish I used magnets. It makes storage easier and more compact, plus you can use less total bases, as long as your whole force is not going onto the table at the same time. |

Necro'ing this thread hoping that Michael Hatch see's this (or someone who can assist) This is EXACTLY what I'm looking to do, however, I'm wondering if a metal ball could be glue to the top of the stand and if there would be enough "grip" to keep a 1/300 plane from falling off. |

Two magnets will have better grip, unless you use a really big magnet. A pair of 3x1mm magnets would be ideal for 1/300 metal planes. |
