You open your package of miniatures that arrived in the post and see all those march attack muskets bent in a U shape.

I just got my latest Perry order and had some heart stopping moments trying to bend them back into shape without snapping the bayonets off.

I have to admit I have got pretty good at it given all the Old Glory bags that I have brought over the years. But in those you get 30 figures – a few mishaps are OK. In a box of six Perry Carlist infantry when you need six Perry Carlist infantry, those mishaps are a different story.

Have you seen 6mm tank turrets in the mail? grin

No, But I do remember back in the 70s getting a shipment of Mike's Models 15mm Normans and the postie had folded and bent the package to fit into the letterbox slot. There were a lot of spears and lances snipped off and replace with pins from that lot.

I have a hatred of broken bayonets. I'm entitled by paying for figures to receive ones that are fit for purpose – and that to me is unbroken. This includes if they arrive with bent weapons, if careful straightening still results in them snapping off.

I always go back to the supplier to ask for replacements. If suppliers are not packing them well enough to withstand the rigours of postage, then they need to know.

I prefer bayonets from old glory bent around the neck instead of founrdy orders where whole packs are missing.

Once they arrive, flat bladed tweezers in the prep guys- Surgeon Dad turned me on to straighting things delecately without breaking them… I have salvaged a thousand 6mm sabers and bayonets… with speed, using a rotating movement flat pinch.

This is what happens when the gravitational constant is anisotropic.
You can avoid that by buying a special stamp.

Perry figures are packaged pretty well. Little boxes and held tight with a packing wool of some sort. I think these get bent when they come out of the mold hot and are tossed into their bins.

Happened to me too.

The worst is those thin barrels for CinC ships and tanks. Beautiful, but so fragile, models. GHQ is a little better since they went with chunkier barrels. H&R and Scotia might not be my favorite castings, but they are very durable and survive travel and ham-handed gamers quite well.

I've never understood why more figures aren't available without bayonets. Especially the shouldered arms and marching poses.
