Just a quick note to let everyone know that I'll be hoping on my pony to make the trip to NE Houston / Kingwood area tomorrow to playtest some Gutshot rules at MagCon 5.

magcon.org

I'll be running a game at 8 pm – midnight.

I'm not going to decide what to run until I get there and see how many people have signed up for it. I have three new scenarios and some new rules that need playtesting, so I'm going to wing it. Games could include anything from Spaghetti Westerns to our Zombie Rules!

If you're in the Kingwood, Texas area tomorrow and want to see your name in the playtesters' section of an upcoming book, mosey on by and join the Wild West action!

(Info and directions are on the MagCon Website. Our own Website, unfortunately, is still down, but I'm working on it.)

I won't be in Texas tomorrow. Good luck with your game, though--it sounds like fun!
I do have an amazing talent for purchasing rule books just before they are replaced by the next edition. Just a few months ago, I purchased and read Gutshot from cover to cover. I noticed that it mentioned several times that a second edition would be forthcoming, and here you are promising a new edition, it seems.
So, when will this come to pass? How long is my copy good for?

Grelber…I think your copy is good for a bit longer…

We don't have a specific date in mind, but it definitely is at least 2-3 years away. We published the original version in 2005 and we've only made a few substantial updates to the rules during that time (check out our Showdowns & Shootouts material for new weapons and some rules tweaks).

The playtesting I mentioned above is for new material like Spaghetti Westerns and our long-awaited Zombie supplement, not to the core book, itself.

Mike,

Zombies and Wild West, two of my many favorites. Will be moving to Crosby (east of, actually) on May 18th.

Jeff: Welcome to the neighborhood! We'll have to see if we can get you to mosey up to one of our game tables in the near future.

---------------------

Just got back from MagCon (okay, got home around 2 am. I had one of the COOLEST games of Gutshot I've run in ages. It was wild, with some of the most unusual stuff that I've encountered in years. I'll write it up for the Hawgleg site soon… but one of the players actually hid her gun under the baby she was carrying so she could rob the bank! Later, the Sheriff sprang out the second-floor window to rush the outlaw who was sniping at him from across the street, even as the other bank robbers were trying to steal the stagecoach to make a getaway! Then it got even wilder as the townsfolk mobilized to drive the outlaws from their town… Only to have the game end with the lone surviving outlaw to challenge the sheriff to an honest-to-gosh showdown right in the middle of the street.

This was an amazing and WILD game.

Mike,

That won't take any arm twisting. Leaving a fine group of gamers and friends in Denver and good to know I won't be in the wilderness.

Houston definitely is not a gaming wilderness. There's so much to do here and a LOT of great gaming groups. The one thing you'll need to get used to is the traffic and the distances. For example, the Galleria area is only about 20 miles from my house, but if I tried to get there on a weekday after work? It could take me 1.5-2 hours to get there (if there's an accident? 3+ hours).

Even though travel can be a pain, it's usually worth it.
