So, I have an X-Wing that has one engine with a bad glue job. It's very obviously off center and kinda stands out in a bad way. Has anyone had to break off a ship part to reglue it? I want to give it a shot, but am a little worried about doing more harm than good. Any info would be appreciated. |

.it's a matter of being 'cruel to be kind, in the right measure
..' Of course
being good with an exacto knife, bandades and superglue (as well as touch-up paint)
helps too! Sgt DWW |

One of my X-Wings had a badly glued laser. Careful multiple scorings with freshly sharpened X-Acto blade took it off without any noticable damage. |

I just put them out and play – if a piece is bent (X-Wing cannon) or off in some way, no one has noticed! |

Either they didn't notice or the did notice and just didn't care! |

Give it a few years
I expect there will actually be a market for 3rd party replacement X-Wing lasers. Someone will need to figure out a way to make them out of steel or carbon rod. |

There have been some discussions about the issue on the various forums, and here on TMP. If you carefully pry the engines off (usually, a mis-aligned X-Wing engine), they can be re-glued in place. I've never done it, but that's what I've read. On the plus side, the X-Wing laser quality, and wonky Tie Wings seem to have been fixed with the latest releases (many were mis-aligned also, and/or not straight). Not sure how you fix those though, if you were unfortunate enough not to get straight ones on the ones that came out, with inferior quality control. It appears to me they've either changed suppliers, and/or finally got the manufacturers attention on those issues, after postings about them. |

Yep, not a hard fix. Take a pair of needle nose and work the engine gently backwards. It'll pop out. File down the base of it a bit and clean out the hole it notches into, put on a dab of glue, and slide it back in. No worries. A little warning tho..once you fix one, you'll notice slight imperfections in all, and if you'll allow me a rather obscure Father Ted reference,as Father Dougal says to Father Ted fixing the dent in the car, "it's no use, you'll never get it absolutely right." Kind regards Anthon |
