While reading through Vol 1 of Greg Novaks work I found a entry for armed and unarmed highlanders in one of the strength returns.

Would anyone care to enlighten me as to what these were?

In what context

Dn Jackson12 Apr 2013 8:12 a.m. PST

With the mix of armed and unarmed I'd guess the Loyalist force at Moore's Creek Bridge.

Moore's Creek was my first guess, too, but if it's volume one, then it must be the Northern campaigns, so I would guess something in Canada during the American invasion of 1775 – possibly the siege of the fort at St John's, the attack on Montreal, or the siege of Quebec.

Remember a lot of the Highlanders in the Carolinas were " transportees". Political undesirables, and mightn't be alowed to possess arms.

If you're talking about the ex-Jacobites, those who had survived the climate would be mainly their 50s and 60s. Not quite what the Crown was looking for.

They kept transporting undesirable right up 'til the end, so there'd be a few younger sort too. Also, we Celtic types tend to pass on our grudges!
