In the US I know we sound "General Quarters".
In the Royal Navy, I believe they sound "Action Stations".
I have a vague recollection that the French navy uses "Combat Stations", though I wouldn't swear to it.

I would like to know what phrase is used by the Russian navy?

Others would be useful too if you know any.

Thanks!

but not the russian

I have been told by some Dutch coworkers
that the russian navy uses many Dutch terms

TNE2300, you could well be right: Peter the Great came to Holland to learn how to build a navy.

Based solely on my viewing 'the Battleship Potemkin', I believe the Russian navy does everything silently…

I'm sure, "Holy Bleeped text! They're shootin' at us" can be translated into most languages.

"They're shooting at us in Technicolor!"

Isn't the French version:

Laisser un bateau susceptible de couler en mer?

Depends on where you are in the US Navy, too. Subs sound the General Alarm and 'man battlestations torpedo' or 'man battlestations missile' (with some other qualifiers that I won't mention).

Well, being a former USN attack sub captive, uh, I mean sailor, it was "Battle Stations , Battle Stations, all hands man your Battle stations" over the 1MC. Or, as was usually the case, someone nudging your shoulder while you were asleep, and whispering "battle stations" . Being as we had only torpedo tubes, none of those new fangled 'missile' tubes.

I've heard this so many times….

A Thursday morning, somewhere in the South Coast Exercise Areas (West)…

"D'ye hear there, PWO speaking. Intelligence suggests a Tesrodian FGA raid is building to the East. Therefore:
Hands to Action Stations, Hands to Action Stations…."

That was the training environment, where every Thursday there is a War in these exercise areas, and everybody is already up, dressed, briefed, ready…For real, your first heads up will be the pipe:

"Captain to Ops Room, Captain to Ops Room"

If you hear that during the silent hours when in your scratcher, experience suggests you may as well roll out and don up there and then. You may just have time for a quick wet of tea before the fun starts…

What a shame we've lost the red coated marines "beating to quarters" to history!
