Hi there

Anyone know of good AWI rules system compatible with 40mm figures. I already own the Black Powder rulebook.

Thanks

Paul

Depends on what kind of game you want. We are using the free download (also available to purchase printed) All The King's Men and having a blast!

Click on "Free Wargames Handbook."

Rules are generally not size specific, so pretty much any AWI rules should work fine.

If you find the ground scale with your favorite set doesn't work out well, increase it.

Ed beat me to my first suggestion. There's also Sharp Practice with the AWI supplements from TooFatLardies. I've got SP and am starting to put together forces for 40mm Napoleonics. I planning on using SP for my 28mm AWI though.

Der Alte Fritz has a set of rules that should work just fine. PM him for a copy….

We have our 40mm AWI house rules we use with our Trident Figures. E-mail me and I will send you a copy.

What Margard said … What level of game are you looking for? For a battlegame, you can get Will McNally's rules free here We got a good enjoyable game out of them: TMP link

There is a traditional and a computer moderated version

Muskets and tomahawks if you want skirmish.

Other than skirmish, I'd suggest the Carnage and Glory SYW/AWI computer moderated rules…I will be running two games at Historicon using them with Sash and Saber and Trident 40mm units, including the new Trident French.

Small skirmish – Musket & Tomahawk.
Large skirmish – Sharp Practice.

I use 40mm and use modified Battle Cry on a 5" hex matt from Hotz matts. Games are fun and a bit toy soldier ish.

And, has anyone an experience with Brother against brother for that period and scale??

I have used Patriots! From the Perfect Captain, Muskets&Mohawks from Two Hour Wargames, Disperse Ye Damned Rebels from Larry Brom and several other sets.

40mm can be based on almost the same size bases as 28mm, so any set that will work with 28mm will work with 40mm with no changes.

Any set that uses group bases rather than individual figures can be used simply by using a base as a base, even if it has fewer than "official" figures on it.
