1. Debates about Stifling.
2. Debates about Tango01's contribution on TMP

Guys, time to raise your game?

That's only 2

On Topic 1 I think there has been a development over the years in the debate.

It started off with : "how dare you stifle me ??? I know who did it" (no – you're only guessing).

Then it progressed to the ethics of stifling and whether stifling was the act of the weak willed. This could be characterised by "Real Men Don't Eat Quiche Nor Do They Stifle".

There was the side issue of free speech – if I have freedom of speech (which on TMP you don't – there are rules) then how dare anyone ignore me. There was a side-side issue where drive-by posters would be as provocotive as possible in order to get a reaction. Generally of frothing at the mouth outrage.

I feel we've moved beyond this into a new era where the stifle count has become mainly a source of amusement. I would argue this is a good thing, as it represents a community that can accept (or stifle) a range of opinions without getting overly upset about it.

On 2.

I have come, over the years, to appreciate Tango01's unique approach to posting and topic selection. It can seem a bit odd on first encountering it, but I've seen more good links / pictures than bad over time so – more power to your elbow that man.

Silent Pool11 Apr 2013 3:47 a.m. PST

a new era where the stifle count has become mainly a source of amusement

I agree with that now.

Occasionally it is horrid, but when it is good it is very very good.

I think 20th Maine has the right of it as far as I'm concerned.

3. Constant debate over TMP's format and non-hobby inane statements(I'm just as guilty).

4. Love of the hobby

I agree with 20th Maine on the first two but insist the third be revealed.

Was it drive by Zardozing? The chance of another 'Panty Explosion' or tuxedo clad robot littering the front page like an unwelcome houseguest for months? Could it simply be the pure joy of the annual spring mass dawghausing and resultant discussions of TMP due process?

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP11 Apr 2013 5:15 a.m. PST

Was it drive by Zardozing?

I was thinking more of blatent breaches of the posting rules coupled to quite extreme views. There's a term for it, but saying it is risking a breach of the TMP rules. But the icon exists grin

I agree that most members of TMP do appear to be able to accept other members have different opinons, which is how it should be. It is what makes some of the debates so enjoyable, especially when both sides of a debate learn from it.

Yet sadly, there are those who, for some odd reason, seem totally unable to cope and unable to ignore posts they disagree with. They then feel compelled to stifle, which suggests they have no confidence in their own ability to ignore posts they disagree with or of their own opinions and knowledge being challenged, incase they are proven wrong.

But I guess it takes all kinds to make up this world and live and let live I say. And if stifling makes some people happy and gives them a little bit of pleasure, then so be it.

However, my opinion and of someone who has never stifled and never will – Death to the stifle!

Hmmm, there are some pretty eminent contributors to this thread already …I would have bet that you had stifled me long ago.

Ha, ha. You're all welcome.

Old theme: can we all do more to make TMP a better experience?

I think we should have a ''Things Keeping TMP Going'' board.

3.The Members and the police, I mean the old Bill.

Gazzola11 Apr 2013 11:56 a.m. PST

I'm worried about the stifle element spreading. Imagine, people might start stifling each other in the street! Then at work, in the governments, in the Armed services – oh heck, where will it all lead to?

And history will say that the world ended when everyone stifled each other and no one listened, so they never heeded the warnings! I'm telling you, embrace the stifle at your own peril! The Emperor of Stifles has spoken.

ps: I'd get all those miniatures painted while you still can.

1) whats a stifle ???
I mostly don't open posts about them.

2) who??
Don't look at names much, they don't have much impact in my life.
(from books to actors I just don't seem to care who did anything)I don't even know the name of the person who wrote the 3 books I just finished last night, now I might have to look to see if there is a 4th one but I will not remember it for longer then it takes me to find out.
(name of the book and cover art I will remember)
(3) new minis and painted photos.
