I'm a little curious as to what became of the superfigs line of comic book miniatures. Are they still making new ones, or is the line pretty much dead?

Chef Lackey Rich Fezian11 Apr 2013 4:42 a.m. PST

Old Glory hasn't released anything new for the line in several years, but it isn't really dead – still by far the largest range of supers outside of Heroclix. There was at least one more small release wave sculpted that hasn't seen the light of day, but OG seems to have shifted more toward 15mm for new releases, which partially accounts for the delay.

The actual SuperSystem rules has a 3rd edition now, which is mostly sold through pdf through Wargames Download and Saber's Edge, although there have been at least two small physical print runs. Scott Pyle's blog is pretty active, and has links to both those e-stores as well as a lot of chat about other products that use the Goalsystem engine:

I've stopped holding my breath for more, but I'd happily buy new figs if they came out.

I love the game and the models, but they lost me completely with the third edition coming so soon after the second one (which came too soon after the first, for me). I just didn't want to get into another GW-style race to sell more books, and I had made laminated cards for ALL the characters in the book twice already. Maybe I will be tempted to play V2 again if they do release more models…

Um – there have been a grand total of three editions over about 12 years, with a three-year gap between 2nd and 3rd. Grand total of five books, two of which were supplements for 1st ed that were folded in to the later editions. Admittedly, the changes and improvements in 3rd are less sweeping than they were in 2nd, but I'd like to think that's a result of Scott getting the system refined to a point where there isn't much room to make it better. I wouldn't exactly call that GW-style marketing, especially since even the most recent books are barely half the price of a single codex, and you can buy a small army of figs for the game for what a squad of anything Warhammer related costs.

And if the game was earning like a Warhammer product for OG, we'd still be seeing new figs regularly.

The beautiful thing about SuperSystem is that you can use any figures and can create stats for anything or anyone.

I also think GW-style (at least to me) implies that you make things redundant when a new edition comes out. That isn't present in SS.

The idea of Scott cranking out more editions in a cynical ploy to get rich is very funny, if you know him.

One Of These Days (tm) I'm going to buy about a dozen packs of the Host Omega Shocktroops ( link ) and stage a Jack Kirby-esque alien horde attack on a SHIELD HQ.

Don't yield! Back SHIELD!

Fergal11 Apr 2013 8:52 a.m. PST

How about a Hydra attack? link

That would be cool too!

I do know him, and I never said that. Multiple versions of rules over a relatively short time frame is GW-style to me. I implied nothing else.

To be fair, what you said was " I just didn't want to get into another GW-style race to sell more books". In my addled brain that implies the motive was to…err…sell books. Usually that equates to making money. I'm a bit thick and I have been told that my brain does not function like most, and I certainly wasn't trying to tick you off.

Crossover, I always preferred AIM to Hydra. Something about those funky yellow uniforms.

Oddly enough, that's exactly how I read Nazrat's comment too – and I don't think there's anything wrong with the way your brain, at least in this case. :)

I always wondered what they were thinking with 15mm supers. For a skirmish game that might involve a half dosen figures per side, 15mm just doesn't make sense to me.

Spudeus18 Apr 2013 9:38 a.m. PST

15mm makes a sort of sense with Golden Age games, where you might have half a dozen supers vs. hordes of nazis or what have you . . .but I agree that superheroes should be in a heroic scale!
