To The Officers and Men of the USS THRESHER and USS SCORPION. Thank you, God Bless and Keep You. May we be worthy.

I like to think we've done pretty well since then. Haven't lost a boat since, and we've had several close calls (USS San Fran being the closest). think of the girl back home, think of the girl back home, knock on wood.

And may we keep it that way!

The SUBSAFE programme has saved many lives, shame the Russians never cared that much for their equally brave crews.

RIP, Threshers.

For sheer stone-cold courage and professionalism, you will have a very long walk indeed to find better than a USN submariner.

All the best,

John.

We need to mention the other thing to come out of the Thresher/Scorpion losses. DSRV and the international distress call 'SUBSUNK'.

Any submarine-operating nation can send that message, and every other submarine-operating nation will send their specialty rescue equipment at bat out of hell speeds. And no questions asked other than 'last known position?'
