Tried my hand at some modular forest terrain. All the holes are magnetized and the inserts are based on 5 euro cent pieces, you can even turn them upside down. I'll probably make 3 or 4 of these and I'm thinking of making some rock inserts too. All in all they were quite easy to make and they'll greatly reduce the amount of storage space I'll need for my terrain.

Really great stuff! Love the idea
how long did it take you to make it? |

I sometimes do this for exotic features on boards. On my trench board, for example, I may want a crashed aircraft, a demolished farm house, or just open space out in no-man's land. So I have modular pieces. This can also be used for initial and destroyed models of the same thing. So your trees can be standing at the start of the game, and when troops hiding in them get hit by heavy weapons you can replace them with burned stumps! |

I've made some similar usin really cheap cardboard and funky foam, 2p pieces from UK. Most woods are slightly "raised" due to root action, so about 8-10mm for 15mm figures makes good rolling terrain. Flat 2-funky foam with coin cut out of top level. Works as the foam grips the coin quite nicely and shows where plants, etc. should be in skirmish games. |

There was a KS project for something similar a few months ago |

I'm liking it. I may do something similar, but not use the perfect circle bases. Maybe something with some overlap to help blend the inserts in with the base. I like it though too because you can battle damage the scene, maybe even put in destroyed pieces like mentioned above. Groovin' |

I love it! The edges could have been painted green or brown. Or flocked. Other than that, perfect. Dan |

@ Mr Harold I knocked the forrest base and 3(x5) different types of vegetation together in about an evenings time, started after dinner, finished painting around 23.30h.( they do need some aditional flocking.) This was allowing for some experimentation as to how I was going to make them, I expect the rest to go a bit faster. @Moocifer Thanks for the link, thats a treasure trove of inspiration that is! I'll probabely be copying how he did his rocks and walls. For those of you who want to do something similar but didn't like the circular tree bases, check out these
from link If I had known about these earlier things might well have looked different :-) |
