Hello everyone, I am considering putting together some knights mounted on barded horses in order to complement my French HYW army (late period, Joan of Arc, 1429), so far predominantly constituted of figures from the Perry Agincourt range. The Perry range do not have horses with full barding/housing, so which alternative maker would you recommend, both in terms of design and size-compatibility with my Perry's ? I looked into the First Corps /Kingmaker range, with exquisite sculpting: link I also considered the Front Rank range, which offer a wide variety of poses (up to 12 different knights with lance at rest) to combine with nothing less than 6 different horses in barding: link link So
Kingmaker ?
Front Rank?
Any other maker?
I will gladly take any suggestion / advice. ☺ Many thanks in advance!!! Oliver PS: and yes, I know that barded horses were not anymore that frequent in early XVth century (other than in jousts/tournaments, parades and « pas d'armes »), but they are so beautiful for the eye that I can't resist mixing them with minis with more of an Agincourt flavour! ;) |

For barded horses, how about the Perry WOTR range? Plastic, and should be compatible. |

Hi Pedrobear, Sorry I should have been more specific: I meant CLOTH barding. I think the WOTR range is more armor/metal barding. |

I used some bodies from Fireforge horses from their Teutonic Knights and converted them to fit horse heads and riders from Perry WOTR.

i am pretty sure that front rank figures are quite a bit bigger than perry. i believe that kingmaker is closer to scale. i found a box of fireforge tutonics on the cheap, and used their horses, which looked great. the problem being that now i have extra perry metal horses waiting to be used. i don't know how good you are with green stuff, but i sculpted my own barding on some perry horses, and they look pretty good. |

I still like the barded horses from Essex. They are well proportioned with a lot of varitey. Allen |

Have a look at the HYW French Knights I've just painted for Eagle Figures. They're v nice and I'd say very compatible with Front Rank, et al. link Steve |

If you are looking for cloth barded horses, how about Wargames Foundry sculptured by the Perries: link |

It appears your talking 28mm, you won't be disappointed with "Front Rank". Their still among the best, especially their horses and easy to paint. |

I've got a small conversion (really a horse swap and filling in the gaps with putty) of the Duke of Clarence for the Battle of Bauge that I've been working on and I've used a Front Rank caparisoned horse with a Perry rider and it works surprisingly well. It will look a 'tighter' match when it is painted too. My other option was black Tree Designs but I'm not a fan of ordering anything from them. Darrell.
