Just a quick note to say that I will be bringing my "Cod War" 1/1200 naval participation game to Salute this year on behalf of the Naval Wargames Society. Looking back through my files I see its the tenth anniversary of the game's first outing (at the naval Museum in Portsmouth in 2003) and its 20th anniversary overall (first concept ideas put down on paper in 1993!!)

The game has been simplified for play at the show, and will feature some new models recently made available via Shapeways.

"There's something wrong with our bloody fish today!"

That's a game I would love to see played.

Sounds like fun.

Wish I could make it.

Don't forget Whale Wars. Saw in the news they won a pretty major victory over the Japanese this season, with their four vessels (Sea Shepherd's new, larger fleet).

Kept them to about 10%, or so of what the Japanese wanted to catch, for Minkes, IIRC, and kept them to zero for a couple of the other, larger species.

I'm one step ahead – the Whale Wars variant hit the streets some years ago :)

Turbot Wars next!

We just ran some playtest games for the revised version at the Berkeley Vale club tonight. Very useful, with some tweaks to be made and improvements to the ship logs and manoeuvre records to increase ease of play. So some typing up over the next couple of days, painting up the last batch of ships from Shapeways, reprinting the rules and sheets and we are good to go.

It sounds like a fun event. Be sure to take lots of photos for those of us that can't be there.

Ahh yes fond memories the Mighty Icelandic Navy in all its glory defeating the English at sea!

Well ok a couple of cost guard cutters, when we ran out of ammo for our two pounders (too many warning shots) we just ordered some from England and if I recall correctly they shipped them to us.

After doing all the research on those models I think my sympathies lie slightly more with the Icelanders. Both sides were fighting for their livelihoods, it's a shame there was not more of a compromise reached in the end.

I'll probably be hovering around the table at Salute.

As on of said players from last night's playtest games I can highly recommend the game. Simple, fun and relatively quick; the perfect participation game.
